Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

I graduate form ITI Technical college in Baton Rouge, La in August 2016 with an associates degree in Process Technology. I want to go back to school and pursue a degree in engineering. At first i wanted to go for petroleum engineering, because they made more more money and i wouldn’t have to work in a chemical plant as much as i would as a PTech. But, Ive been hearing a lot of negative things, like graduates have a hard time finding jobs and that petroleum jobs weren’t going to be around in the next 20 years or so. Ive been wondering if i should switch to Chemical since its a more broader degree. Would i have to work in a chemical plant as a chemical engineer? lol sound like a dumb question, but I have zero knowledge about the different fields a chemical engineers could work in.
