I want to be a petroleum engineer but would also like to be able to work in the downstream sector which is for chemical engineers. I'm not sure how I should do schooling. Like which one for bachelors and which one for masters?

Well if you want to work downstream then either chemical or mechanical. Petroleum engineering isn’t really a good concentration to work downstream as it doesn’t apply much to the refining setting. Also the two majors are not all that similar, you will find yourself taking a lot more geology courses as a PE which you will never touch as a ChemE unless it interests you and you take those classes. If you are truly undecided I would recommend going in as a MechE and take some geology courses on the side. If you find yourself loving the geology courses you can easily switch to PetE.
