I found info on taking the Chemistry 5 and 6 credit tests, but not the Chem 10 placement test. Could anyone tell me what I need to know for the Chem 10 test? And if you've taken the class, what does the class entail (other than not procrastinating because it's fast-paced)? I've taken AP Chem, got 5's on my practice tests, but when I got to the test, I got a 4. Am I prepared enough for the class because of AP?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, I took that class. I did very well on chem in high school, got an 800 on the chem SAT II, and a 5 on the AP exam. Let me be clear, chem 10 was an insanely difficult class. Lots of work, very time-consuming, labs are extensive. I don't mean to scare you away from the class if that's what you want to do, but I figured you should at least have a heads up so you know what you're getting into.

...But you probably made at least an A-...so it's all good.

After speaking with both the professor who teaches Chem 10 (Belbruno that year) and the one who teaches Organic (Jacobi) my daughter took orgo as a freshman - it was difficult, but she felt it was the right choice for her. She also had 800 in the SAT 2 and a 5 on the AP, so your level of preparedness seems equivalent to hers. Just a thought.

Bulldogbull, could you tell me about the test? What exactly would I need to know for the test?

By the way, I got 750 on Chem SAT 2 if that helps anybody.

The placement test is not hard.

yeah, I also had belbruno. He's a fantastic prof. The class is still hard though.

Also, aerialblue, I got a B+

Not hard even though I took AP Chem over a year ago?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions. XD

Hey bulldogbull...still much better than the B- my friend made in Chem 5.

The salient point is that Chem 10 is graded much more generously than Chem 5. So '12 dude, the placement test is worth a try. You have nothing to lose.

atomicwhisper, yes, i recall the test not being very hard.

aerialblue, yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about my grade, nor am I discouraging anyone from taking the class. again, this is just more of a heads up, so that you're not caught off guard like I was.

In any case, yes, definitely take the placement test. And yes, the class is graded more generously, but you will certainly work to earn whatever grade you get.

Well, I don't mind working hard for something I really want. And I was planning on being a chem major (not pre-med).

:P I'll take it and see where I end up. Thanks.

Definitely take it if you want to be a chem major. The test isn't too bad. I took it after a year of having no chemistry and ended up in the class, which was one of my favorites my freshman year.
