Chemistry 3BL

Okay, we got the same ppm order. Sweet.

yeah that’s what I got 6 2 2…i think my intensities were 121 121

what’d you guys do for mass spec?

oh yay…i got 54123 as well

just do alpha cleavage and then show the different MW. did you guys get like 71%? and why is the last one C8? C8 was for non polar molecules i thought…

i got 81% (first problem)…c8 cuz the alcohol wouldn’t stick but the would

For percent yield? I got like 81% You use C8 because you want the more polar molecule (4 hydrogen bonds) to elute so you use C8 which is nonpolar and binds to the molecule you DONT want allowing the molecule you want (the polar one) to elute off the column.

how’d you get 81%? :frowning: the molecule was the same except for the OH becoming an aldehyde right?

Yeah…and the math came out to 81%
.5 x 1 mole/98g x 1 mol/1 mol x 96g/1 mol = .489

.4/.489 = ~81%

if you made an aldehyde you added a carbon

oh s.o.b. i added the carbon. wowowow looks like i f’ed up major. good thing i only need 16-20 for an A-/A…sheesh.

^ Yeah whops. But math is still right. Only difference is 2 hydrogens (hence 96 instead of 98)

did we have to show the mass for mass spec?

i just showed alpha beta fragmentation and said that they would be different masses b/c of the carbon chain

oxidant regenerates = green?

What did your cleaved cations look like? I wasn’t sure if I did it right. My nitrogen was like sp2 w/ a CC double bond and also a hydrogen and other carbon bond to nitrogen.

I agree with everything you guys just said. I showed the masses, but I don’t think they were necessary. I also said the Magtrieve was retrievable ;)

i can’t tell if it’s the same  but I cleaved at the ring on (1) and gave that a radical…lemme guess, wrong?

on (2) i cleaved to make a toluene-like radical…

both had =N(+)-HR (only 2’s R was shorter than 1’s)
.
…no good?

I thought mass spec can only detect charge (+) molecules so radicals aren’t the answer?

hmm so if i got like a 9.8/12 average on labs and only missed the NMR coupling and one part of the chromatography question… A-?

like calbear said earlier…he better adjust his scale

suzuki is a pretty easy 12 points though…

what have you gotten on quizzes? Them together is almost the final.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! 123456789bc are you for real?! I dropped suzuki! Oh well at least I was officially done with 3bl really early =)

waait…what?
