I am very nervous haha. I suck at chem, and I havent taken it since 9th grade. Is chem really that hard in college? I am prepping now, should I be fine? in 141

It’s designed for those who have had no exposure. Work hard enough and you should be fine.

Thanks! Did they just start this? Should I do well on the class if I do well on the chem test?

No, it was always designed that way. Just because it’s for beginners doesn’t mean it’s not rigorous. Yes, if you do well on the exam (or pass it), you should be capable of performing well in the course.

Is the placement test ridiculously hard? I wasn’t really planning on studying this summer but I want to pass the test. Similar to emoryguy, I haven’t taken chem in awhile (2 years).

I’m pretty sure it’s not hard. And even if it is, you only need to score > 54% on it. it really only tests some basic skills from HS chem apparently.

so to get the full 3% you only need above 54?

I don’t know anything about a 3% (have no idea what you’re talking about). I just read somewhere that the chemistry placement exam considered passing as 54%.

Never mind, apparently it’s like an 80% (must be really easy):

This seems new, actually. They seem to be making the full switch to the Aleks system, both for the placement exam and the coursework (this summer is the first time they are trying it for the coursework).
