does anyone know how comprehensive the Chemistry exam shall be?
I am aware of the general topics (stoich., alg. manipulations, nomenclature etc.), but in terms of test format, difficulty level so on and so forth . . .
I took honors chem. in 9th grade (freaky block scheduling & science magnet) and am worried if I will have time to brush up on the material.
Also, does anyone know the contact for Chem. 141 placement?

I e-mailed Dr. Tracy Morkin (contact person on the letter about placement tests). She said that those who are interested in taking introductory Chemistry will need to take a placement test to determine if they will need to take Chem 135 or Chem 141.

In my e-mail, I explained my situation (I had both AP and IB credit in Chemistry) and she said that those intending to enroll in Chem 171 because of credit do not need to take a chemistry placement test.

Hi Shahein,

Nice to hear from you.

If you are enrolled in Chem 171, there is no need to take the placement test. See you here in the fall,

Dr. Morkin

However, I have heard from contacts within the school that you will need a personalized PIN of somesort to register for Chem 171, so I would ask your FAME advisor ASAP (you can learn his/her name on Learnlink. I have a conference for my advisor on my desktop).

And then, of course, there are those of us who wouldn't touch chemistry with a ten foot pole . I had bad chemistry and physics high school experiences, chemistry bad, physics agony. I try to steer cleer of both as much as possible. Sometimes more than possible. I plan to take some sort of geology or astronomy or something for my phys sci requirement.

Who said anything about nonscience? I really liked my AP Bio class. I just couldn't stand physics or chemistry. I placed out of my Bio requirement, though, so I don't think I'll take any.

from what i've heard, the most people will place into chem 141. they say that the majority of people with a chemistry background in high school should do fine on the test. just brush up on the subject for the next few days and hope for the best.

i don't know if you know but the language panel is from 8-9 so that means that you cannot do the chem test for session A but you can still do B and C which are at later times in the day. just a suggestion.

I totally agree about Morkin. I had her for Chem 141, and she was mildly entertaining, even at 8:30 am. Hmm. Maybe it's because she's Canadian...
