Chemistry Olympiad 2013!

wait anybody here made camp last year?? im thinking only 5 spots open of the twenty since there are fifteen top 20 from last year who weren’t seniors…doesnt bode well

Going to camp in freshman/sophomore/junior year doesn’t guarantee you a spot for the next year. I would imagine at least a few people would not study and get lower.

^ true, and i’m hoping that people dont study, but i would suspect most would repeat…

I think I got a 53/60 and a 85% on the FR, which I’m actually realistically hoping will get me camp, the scores will be lower this year guys!

Haha well … the wait is upon us.

Anyone feel like discussing FR tomorrow?

I’m pretty confident in my answers, but then again, without an actual trasncript, it’s gonna turn into a whole bunch of
“NO THE QUESTION WAS ASKING FOR "
"I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER IT ASKING FOR _
”

I also got part ii and i’ll upload that tonight

Do top 150 get notified before the 5/6 date either by email or phone or is it just simply we find out on the date through the website?
Anyone from last year’s olympiad know?

Sorry to keep bombarding you guys with questions but I want top 150 so bad. Im estimating ~42 on MC so do I have a small chance?

There’s no notification for top 50/150 people. You just have to keep checking the ACS website starting a few days before the published date for releasing top 150 results - they tend to get stuff done a a little before they say they will.

Yes, I also think that they will announce top 20 before top 50/150 b/c that’s what has happened traditionally even though the dates on the website says otherwise.

42 on mc would most likely make it this year. The scores would dip to probably 40-41 for top 150 I think.

as promised: [part ii - Imgur](part ii - Album on Imgur)

What do you think the cutoff for HIGH honors will be? (I don’t think I’ll even get honors, I’m just wondering.) Thanks in advance!

thanks piphi!

@SciMathNerd I think 50, 75-80% FRQ?

@ Sophia

Agreed.

I redid the FRQ and here[/url”>Imgur: The magic of the Internet]here are my answers!

I got all of the same answers except for…
6.d. I just had no idea…
7.b.ii. The line should be slightly curved as this is a non-ideal solution (heat of mixing <0). If you have Atkin’s, you can see a similar graph in the Physical Equilibria chapter, I think.

@wagawaga yeah I agree. If you do the calculations and plot points you get a slightly curved line.

@Sophia7X, if the responses that you posted are the ones that you had on the actual exam, you’re going to make camp for sure!
