I think we should make a Facebook group where we can discuss our questions, preparation, etc.

Wondering how many people on CC participate in USNCO?

I’m gunning for chemistry olympiad. I’ve got a lot of work to do, though.

I am, too! Albeit in a different country but I have a feeling that the exams will be at least somewhat similar. ;)

Also, Schrodinger is a genius.

Are you sure the cat isn’t the actual genius?

I’ll be participating as well, and would love that extra help.

Good Idea. The problem is that we don’t know each other’s names.

I can make a group and send the link to you guys if you want?

PM me that link.

SHould i take the chem olympiad?? I took AP chem last year and i got a 3… im not sure if i remember much about chemistry anymore =/

hey, can i join you guys too?

i’m still debating whether or not to participate as I am a freshman and i have only taken an honors course in chemistry.

also please disregard my weird facebook profile XD

Yooooooo guys my school doesn’t offer ap chem but I’m taking honors right now, would anyone recommend trying to study for the chem Olympiad?

I have a study hall when second semester starts so I could spend at least 50 minutes a day studying.

Let’s make this group pretty open. More people = better :)

@Ecouter, I hope you don’t mind me sharing th link in the thread

when is the chem olympiad anyway? should i start studying now?

efeens, I’m in a very similar situation and I think you should try it. If you know enough to do well on the US local exam, you could probably take the AP Chem test and do well. Labs don’t really become important till the next round or so, I think.

what books/materials would you guys recommend getting?

^
Chemistry by Zumdahl, and possibly General Chemistry by Pauling are enough for the locals.

For the semis, supplement the above two with a little organic.

when is the olympiad?

Anytime in March.

I’m a freshman in honors chem so I won’t be able to compete this year.
As for next year I’ll be taking AP Chemistry so that will strengthen my knowledge in general Chemistry. I plan to read and work through Brown the central science for general chem and Klein Organic Chemistry. Would thoroughly studying those texts and doing practice tests put me in a good standing for making theTop20 camp? Thanks!
