Chemistry Olympiad 2013!

lol thanks sophia-i thoroughly enjoyed that massive cookie…

also were you not able to make top 50 last year with those stats?! They seem pretty good. How hard is high honors (top 50) in terms of stats?

justin i can’t pm so i’ll just reply here lol
i found the national exam by just playing around with the urls, switching the last couple digits, since they kinda go in order, chronologically. dw i’ve been trying urls out everyday to see if they’ve updated xD

50-53 is good enough for high honors MC but 70 on FRQ is a bit on the low side

Also I failed the titration lab so hard last year lol

Everything that could go wrong went wrong (ie goggles so tight I couldn’t think straight and no time to adjust)

Congrats to everyone who made finals! (Maybe next year for me, who knows?) I went into the National exam without knowing any organic, which probably wasn’t such a great idea in retrospect - and it would be great if someone could explain why question 60 on the mc was A (I completely guessed on that one)

^ conjugated bondsz/??

lol yea that’s why i would have guessed it too. conjugated double bonds. (like u might rem using an aromatic compound w/ conj. dbl bonds during like TLC w/ silca gel or something)…or i could be completely off…

And they also count lab part for top 50?!?! okay gg im done lol (tho idk if i even made top 150 yet-but hopefully 48 is enuf?)

Just to be safe since i’ve heard some recent contraedictions honors is only determined by mc right?

its only mc

so i’m sitting at a 47 right now, really anxious for them to release the results

im so nervous with a 45 XD

Are the MIT intro chem courses on OCW useful for Chem. Oly. preparation?

it’s out: <a href=“American Chemical Society”>American Chemical Society;
didn’t make it with a 47 :frowning: so confused…

**** me didn’t make :(

i’m guessing the cutoff was 48 since i think jzhang12 made it. can someone confirm this?

Does anyone know the cutoff for high honors?

bleh failed only got a 42 probably. Does this actually happen?

Scoring
ACS calculates the average number of correctly answered questions by topic area. Scores are ranked as follows:

outstanding performance
above average
average
below average

^^^^do we get these back?

Yeah but not actual scores

when do we get that usually?

Didn’t make it. Oh well, there’s next year!

supposedly yo coordinator gon get the score “rankings,” but i’ve never seen mine…

guess you could shoot off an email to your coordinator and find out
