So the top 150 and top 50 are out? I can’t access the site -________-

As expected, I didn’t make it.

Made top 50. Guess I can try for camp again next year. shrug

top 50 again. i’m a senior so i guess that’s it for me. At least i got into stanford :)

It takes time to improve one’s score significantly at the national level. It is not a bad idea to begin preparing for the next year now.

According to the rules only 2 students are allowed to compete in the nationals from each school. But if there are ties then will everyone who tied get to participate in nationals or do they have tie breakers?

I hate chemistry

@Opinion559 I think ( not sure) that it is then up to the discretion of the teacher at the school who is in charge of the ChemOlym.

Next year, as a senior, I’m going to do my best to make camp. Grrr, I did much worse on the USNCO than I should have.

@huehuehue32: Thanks. Good luck trying out for camp next year!
Apart from Zumdhal where else can you find good problem sets to work with?

Oxtoby and Atkins.

Is Carey or Klein better for Organic Chemistry for the Olympiad?

Chemistry olympiad rules says that two students are allowed from each school to attend the National exam. However, my school/region says that only student is allowed from each school in our region.

Can some one tell me how many students are allowed from your school? If only one student is allowed from each school, that is ridiculous.

So I’ve heard good things about Zumdahl. Is it good for most of the Olympiad prep, or just specific subject areas? If the latter is true, then what are good books to cover up the gaps?

besthope11, from what I’ve read, it seems that each school can only send one person the the regionals.

That’s honestly not a problem for me atm, but in junior year, I might have some competition since I"m switching schools.

I was told that two students from each school can take the national exam. Last year we had two who took the nationals. Of course I am still not sure what happens when there is a tie. Next year I am going to face some real competition!

There was a tie for second at my school this year. They were friends, so one just let the other take the nat’l exam.

Many students from my school do not even want to try Chemistry Olympiad because of the only one qualifier per school policy at our local region. They spend time on Biology Olympiad or Physics. I feel Physics is the best one - very transparent selection process.

@FlyingWombat Klein is better

Can you just read a certain textbook 3+ hours a day and make camp or higher, like in USABO?

Or is it like USAMO, where everyone already knows differential equations and no ammount of hard work will result in you getting on their level?

It’s pretty knowledge based. Not quite as much as USABO, but all you really need to do is know what you’re doing and review past exams (and know what format they want answers in and whatnot).

If I won at local level but failed to make top 146, how should i mention this on my college app?
