Chemistry Olympiad 2014

lolololol - I don’t think my region has that high cutoff… And I got my qualification notifications today - 3 days after taking the test. They were pretty fast!

where is the national competition held at?

ITs still held at your local center. You should get e notification on when and where… For us, it is on April 26th

Aw man, it would be exciting to make it to the national test.

Did anyone from Los Angeles Area get notifications as to whether you qualified or not?

@williams1111 yes! got my results about a week after i took it.
you should ask your teacher to check if he/she has gotten any notification about the scores yet.

Would a 49 MC/ 83 FR on the national exam have chances for honors/high honors?

Did you guys not get your scores too? I don’t understand why they won’t tell us our scores, only if we qualified for Nationals or not. I was so sure I got a 60 afterwards but I didn’t even qualify so I would like to know my score

@persondontexist That means I would have to wait five more days… I took the exam at a school that I don’t attend so there is no way for me to ask the teacher… :frowning: Did you qualify to take the national exam? Do you know what the cutoff score is?

Hey guys,

i qualified for the USNCO national test, and i really want to make at least honorable mention, but i have no idea on how to prepare. I heard that the usnco test is more broad, that you have to have a solid base in organic chemistry, and that it’s significatnly harder than the local exam.

i know that there are practice tests online, but i still wanna prep for it. which books should i use?

i got a 61/70 on the local exam, (our district adds 10 extra questions) or 57/60 for the first 60 questions.

I really appreciate your help!

Anyone know the usual cutoff for MC part for top 150?

I took the local exam yesterday. Our section had 100 questions and only 10 can take the national test. Unfortunately we had a lot of people taking the test… Still no idea what the cutoff is, but I’m nervous because the guy said someone got a 90/100… Pretty sure I didn’t make it. I’ll have to ask my chem teacher tomorrow.

dang! how are there different no of questions on each local exam? is this supposed to mean that there is a difference in questions and difficulty in all these tests?

Got a 55/60 on the exam. Cutoff was 56 but only top 2 go so I wouldn’t be able to compete anyway. Good luck t all.

does anyone know what the approximate cutoff score for top 150 and top 50 was for last year?

@_EVERYONE You guys seem like you know what you’re doing when it comes to the USNCO. Would taking Organic Chemistry help with the USNCO? Honors chem as a freshman; AP Chem as a sophomore; Organic chem as a junior? Or is it not that important (if it won’t be that beneficial, I’d rather take Organic Chemistry as a senior).

@DigitalKing same boat… trying to decide whether or not to take ochem next year (junior)…

Have anyone heard from the Santa Clara region yet?

LA region was a 54 cutoff and 59 high score i think? can anyone confirm that?

I got an 85/100 and am first alternate to take the national test! So happy. Didn’t prepare at all. Odds are someone won’t be able to take it so I can go, but still my chem teacher was super happy with me and my results  Good luck to all!
