OK, D got her chemistry score on Thursday and she got a 720. Mixed feelings for both of us. Her chem knowledge is strong and she could have done solidly better. She knew as soon as she walked out that she had messed up the T/F for reasons that aren't needed here.

Question is: A 720 though it visually looks like a nice enough score (though not WOW), when you look it up on charts is only about 75%. She already has a 780 on Bio. Is it worth taking time to restudy keep up on chem while prepping for other tests and essays etc? Or is it better to leave it a lone and concentrate efforts elsewhere. She will have a another score in the fall of the Math IIC which will hopefully be good.

Leave it alone. Schools that want SAT II will generally want two in different "subject areas": math, science, English, history, foreign language. Chem and Bio are in the "same" subject area. Let her concentrate on the Math II, which is in a different subject area.

i would personally take it again with the MathIIC
you also have to take into account what schools she is looking at: i've heard the rule for extremely competitive schools (HYPS) is 750+
and what field she wants to go into...if she's looking for a science major, she might want to consider retaking it
also since she has already studied for it, she might not need to spend much time over the summer and she can still focus on math II...then she will be able to take them both in the fall.

Chedva and Froozle - Thanks for input. I'm going to rattle off a few more details to see if you have any additional/different advice. SAT (1 take) 2090 CR 680 M710 WR 690, ACT (1 take) 33 (writing portion to come), AP Bio 5, AP Chem 4, you have the SAT II's, rank currently 1/179 (may be shared w/ another student but not sure)

Though she will have applied to a variety of schools including those HYPS type schools. Wanting the option for "early" application(s) so before then she has only one SAT sitting that is guaranteed to be able to be viewed before application (Oct, Nov is likely but certain ) and one ACT sitting (Oct, Sept is out of state)

i would say that she should go for it, especicially of she is looking at a science major! If not, then it depends on how much time she needs for her applications and those kind of factors.

i'm not familiar with the ACTs so i can't really advise on that
since you only have 1 sitting for the SATI/SATII in oct and you only have 2 subject tests i would definitely retake chem and try to get around 780. Taking more than 1 SAT II in one sitting is fine considering she already studied for one of them (i know a lot of people who took 3 at once and received 3 800s)
i personally took Chem and Math II in June and got a 790 in chem and 800 in Math II
your daughter also has the summer to study and that's more than enough time
and then i would probably retake the SAT I in november and get around 2250-2350 so they show up on later applications
hope this helps :]
