Does anyone know what the textbook will be for Chem 21L next year? I wanted to do a little review on chemistry this summer.

Last year it was "Chemistry" by Raymond Chang, 8th edition. Not sure how often they change the textbooks, though.

One way to review would be to get an AP Chem study guide... it might even be possible to study that and then take chem 23 instead of 21 and 22. Just my thoughts, not even sure if that would work (the placement part... using a study guide would definitely help you review).

when will we know what textbooks we will have to get? Can I get my books before arriving on campus through a used bookstore, or do I have to go through Duke?

i sure hope i can use amazon...

I am not positive of this, but I heard that they are changing the general chemistry textbook for next year.

They usually show what books we need for all classes in about a month or so. I'm sure someone will post on this board when that becomes available.

I always bought my books through half.com or amazon.com. They're usually cheaper. Watch out that the edition is the same as the one you need though.

I think any general chemistry book should be fine if you just want to review

I know that they are changing chem textbooks because when I sold a book, some girl in front of me was told by the salesperson that they could not by the current book back. I think it is just an edition change though.

Haha, I might have been that "some girl."

I was able to sell my chem book back, so it may have been that they had enough of the chem books already.

As it was explained to me when they DIDN'T buy mine back (ughhh), they only took the first 20 or so - enough for the people enrolled in Chem this summer session, because they're the last ones using that edition. But they didn't want more than that since they're switching editions in the fall. Boo.

Ah, I guess I got really lucky, then... here's to bringing my book to the buyback station less than 30 minutes after the chem final! :)
