Chemistry to Art-Sociology in 10 minutes?

I'll be an incoming freshman this fall and I've been having trouble with finding a good schedule, so I don't want to have to switch to another section of chem132, but in anyone's experienced opinion, is it possible? It seems like it would be a big stretch, at best, to get from the one building to the other in 10 minutes, but I suppose I could be wrong. And, does it make a difference that It's a 3 hour lab that I'll be leaving to get to my next class? I think I recall my OA mentioning that a lot of times you get out of labs early. Any advice would be really appreciated, because the only other open section of chem132 is from 7:30-10:30pm on wednesdays =/.

Chem to Art-Soc is a stretch in ten minutes, but doable. I wouldn’t worry though. I never once had to, or never knew anyone who had to stay the full three hours for a 132 lab.

ginab’s right. you’ll always get out of lab early [unless your TA’s really bad]. even if you don’t, you’ll have to book it a little cause it’s up a hill. but don’t switch to the night lab! it might be a campus, but it’s still PG county. in case you’re not from MD, it’s sketchy and your walk back to your dorm could be kind of unnerving.

also, so you’re hip with the lingo, art-soc is pronounced “sosh” and nobody ever calls buildings by their fill names ;]

I advise against the Wednesday night lab for your first semester mostly for the fact that a large number of clubs meet during this time, so it would be hard to get involved with them if you had a lab.
I’ve never felt unsafe walking at 9:30 at night on campus. After midnight, sure, but you have to be on the look out then in most places.

That’s a relief;

ayoungin-thanks for the tip about the building names. One less way for me to be pointed out as an obvious freshman, haha. And I probably would be a little freaked out walking back to my dorm.

ginab591-good to know about the clubs. And it seems like such an inconvenient time to go to class in general, even if I did end up feeling safe walking back.

Thanks so much for your responses!

A group of students made this website as a project: [TerpNav Pedestrian Mapping System](TerpNav Pedestrian Map System)

It gives you the shortest route from one place to another on campus. Unfortunately, it doesn’t estimate times.

I took chem132 last semester and there are really only 2 labs that take a long time. Most days you will be out an hour early. It’s a hell of a walk, uphill the whole way, but it’s definitely do-able and not worth changing your schedule for.

thanks! terpnav seems pretty useful.
