I’m a sophomore in high school and last year when we chose classes I chose to skip chemistry and go into physics as a sophomore. I took Biology and plan to take Physchology senior year- has skipping chemistry affected my chances at top schools? I can take it next year if needed.
It depends on your intended major/track. I don’t think any school would care THAT much, but psychology is a social science and they like to see 3-4 years of hard science (biology, chemistry, physics). IF you plan on doing anything STEM related, take Chem for sure. If not, I would still recommend it.
Selective colleges (like Stanford, to use an extreme [example](http://admission.stanford.edu/basics/selection/prepare.html)) usually want to see biology, chemistry, and physics.
I would recommend taking physics. Not because the class helped me learn a lot, but because it really helped me think about different ways to resolve problems. I hated the class, but I am definitely a better student for it. Chemistry does not help you at all in physics. However, I believe that it is important that you take it. For me, physics was significantly harder than chemistry ever was.
Psychology is considered a social science, not a science. Whether you should take chem really depends on the level of college you are targeting. Not taking chem and applying to HYPMS will not mean an automatic reject, but you would not be competitive. However, if your colleges suggest chem or physics, then you’d be fine.
Taking chemistry really helped me understand so many other elements of science and school. I felt that it applied to nearly every other subject I took in some way. I would highly recommend you take it if you can! Especially because you never know if you are going to fall in love with it and possibly pursue it in university!
