I am posting this thread to remind everyone that those who wish to audition for CCU at the 2014 Chicago Unified auditions do NOT need to send in a video pre-screen. If you have pre-screen material and want to submit it for Chicago, you may do so (and it is encouraged), but it is not REQUIRED, unlike our on-campus audition dates. More information on auditions for CCU can be found, HERE: [CCU Department of Theatre](http://www.coastal.edu/theatre/html/auditions.html)

Although I encourage the on campus auditions for all of those who CAN do so and are seriously considering CCU, the faculty understands that it’s not possible for everyone. If you wish to sign up for an initial 10 minute audition slot for Chicago Unifieds without a pre-screen, there is a simple form to use. Send me a private message or email askthea@coastal.edu to access it. CCU is attending on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning.

Thanks! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to post.

My son is planning to be at the Chicago Unifieds. If he does not send in a pre-screen, but “passes” the Chicago Unified audition, is he then expected to come to the campus for a final audition? As much as he would love to visit the campus (as would I), time and expenses make it impossible.

The plan now is for him to send in a pre-screen and hopefully be invited to do a final audition in Chicago.

Entertainersmom, While AlexaMT is in the theatre gearing up for a dress rehearsal, why don’t you let me field this one. No, we typically don’t require a student to come to campus after the audition in Chicago. We make invitations directly from the Chicago unifieds. Of course, most students who are serious make a trip to campus at some point. But more to visit than to continue the audition process. We do callbacks right in Chicago. If your son pre-screens, we still may ask to see him twice in Chicago anyway. Once for the short 15 minute slot, and again later for at least another 15 minutes. We tend to spend as much time as possible with each potential student. Let me know if you have other questions. -K

Thank you kjgc. I appreciate your desire to spend as much time as possible with each potential student. That interest in students as individuals comes across in the posts you and Alexa have made and is one of the many reasons my son is so interested in your program. Chasing the MT ring is an expensive proposition, and we have had to make hard decisions regarding where to dedicate our resources. Since we are in the northern hinterlands, visiting campuses will be done if my son is accepted into a program. He is the sort of guy who loves what he does but is fairly oblivious to his surroundings, so campus amenities, etc. don’t interest him much.
Again, I wish to say how much I appreciate the posts you and Alexa have made to this forum. It has helped to inject humanity into a often stressful process.

^^ Ditto!^^ Luckily, we live within driving distance of CCU, and I’m pleased that my son (potentially-- if he passes the pre-screens, of course) will be able to spend the audition day on campus with the faculty and other MT students.

I keep wondering how some of these schools can make a decision with only 5-10 minutes of face-time with these kids.

One of the many things that I love about CCU. If you know AlexaMT is a MT major, and you read this, you probably figure that the rehearsal is for a musical and she is a performer. In reality, the rehearsal is for a play, and she is the assistant director. And yes, it is a mainstage play. She has been working closely with the understudy cast and will be directing that performance. The downside to being so far away is that I can’t get there for the understudy performance. But I love that this is one more opportunity that she gets at CCU!

My D is a MT freshman this year at CCU. If you can make it to campus for auditions you will understand why CCU is so different. The dept. faculty put so much effort into making sure that CCU is the right fit for the student and the program. We felt like we should have paid for a day of workshops when we were there for on campus auditions! I know it gets very expensive to travel all over the country so not everyone can come to campus. Knowing the CCU faculty I am sure they make sure that students at Unifieds also get more than just 3 minutes with them. Best of luck to all everyone for the upcoming college audition season!
