I have been taking Chinese for 2 years in high school. How hard would Chinese be in college?

I’m a Chinese major and I have really loved the program here. Taking it for two years in high school would probably put you in 102 but it’s hard to say. You’d test into whatever level you’d test into.

The professors are very accessible and it’s a growing major - you form bonds with your classmates quickly and will be with them for four years if you major in it. :-)

Difficulty is really hard to gauge. For some people, Chinese is just impossible. But if you’re enjoying it in high school, I’m sure you’ll be fine. In my opinion it’s easier than Spanish… grammatically speaking it’s definitely easier for an English speaker to go to Chinese as opposed to Spanish. I won’t say that it was the easiest class I could have taken, but I’ve enjoyed every Chinese class I’ve taken and so it really hasn’t been so bad. Except maybe 490… that class was stupid hard. But at least I learned… all of Chinese history…

Anyway, no worries. Feel free to PM me.

Thanks cloying!

It’s good to hear a positive response.
