chinese?

ok hey, there is going to be this new chinese language at my highschool, like spanish french andj apanese, i am chinese, and have taken chiense for 8 years, but i really suck at chinese, so i was thinking of taking chinese 1 in 9th grade and chinese 2 in 10th grade. and not take any language in my 11th and 12th year,

i take frnehc right now, but i think french is too hard

can i just take chinese 1 and 2, and ace those classes, i mean will the college admission aplication blah will like look at mines and say, he's chinese and took 8 years of chinese, and why is he taking chinese 1 and 2? i mean will it make me look bad or someting?

i need advice! thanks

Honestly, I tihnk you're a wimp. Stick with a language. You can do it. I'm twelve years old and I'm learning French easily by listening to CD's and following along in a book for ten minutes each day. If you're having trouble, hire a tutor or just ask for help.

What schools are you planning to attend?

I know you're in 8th grade (from your name) but, if you're shooting for the top...

Chinese 1 and 2 is not the way to go.

If you think French is hard, trust me, Chinese is one thousand times harder...

acualy i'm not shooting for the top,i just want to get good SAT, good grades, community service and i just want to play ball for UC berkerly

i already took 8 years of chinese, i mean, what are chinese 1 and 2 like?

I have no idea, I think it depends on your school. If it's new, then the board of edu will make decisions for it. But anyway, I think Chinese 1 is like introduction into Chinese. So dont worry about it. I took Chinese since 1st grade, and stopped in 6th grade, it's just too hard for me.

Honestly, I don't think you should take Chinese.
What's the point of taking Chinese if you already know them? Besides, all you learned in Chinese I and II are fundaments.

Just to let you know, I am also Chinese. I only got up to third grade in China when I moved to America. Now six years have passed without taking any Chinese class in America, when I looked through the SAT II Chinese test, they were extremely easy.

Taking Chinese would be an easy out for you. If you take another language and do well, I can assure you that college will be impressed.

Actually, taking Chinese isn't a bad choice. However, you're saying that you want to only stick with the language for two years (and have no language for the latter part of your high school career). That isn't a good idea. If you want to take up a language, it's best to keep it for three years (four if possible). If you can speak, write, and read Chinese, you can try skipping into Chinese II. My brother currently takes Mandarin II Honors as a freshman. He is planning on taking four years of Mandarin, so that when he's a senior, he can take AP Chinese Language and Culture. Try to maintain a consistent courseload with your foreign language classes.

There's no AP Chinese yet.

Like I said, he is currently a freshman. When he's a senior, the school year will be 2008 - 2009. That would supposedly be the third year for AP Chinese.

My bad. >_<

It's okay. =) You can edit your post #9 if you want.

You might want to consider worrying more about English.

BURN.

(Yes, I'm a jerk. Get over it.)

Take French, wimp. You say you want to go to Cal, but you want to take the easy route? Gimme a break.

I completely agree with UCLAri. :)

same same. Stick with French, and it'll be probably easier for you in the long run.

I'm Chinese too, and I'm currently taking Spanish II.
Spanish I (97 average) was easy for me, so Spanish II (99 right now) is still easy for now.....
I'm in top 3 in both classes.

"I'm in top 3 in both classes."

Well the fact that a 99 isn't a definitive number 1 says a great deal about the inflation you are experiencing. That is all.

First of all, college admission people won't know that you took Chinese in elementary or middle school. Anyway, you should stick with French, or try for some other romance language-- start with Spanish and they all get easy.

that's true. i took spanish 1 and 2 then french 1 then spanish 3 and then stopped. french was ridiculously easy after and compared to spanish. i would have taken more french but my schedule said NO WAY!! but french is a cakewalk after spanish

To Solemn Hermit: It depends, because you were born in China, that's your first language. But I think 8graderboy1 is ABC. So Chinese is definitely hard for me. Same to me, I'm Chinese, but born and grown up in Vietnam. Even though we speak Chinese at home, I found it hard to read or write in Chinese
