Hi, I know this is a little late, but I'm a little confused about how to fill out the course and athletic request worksheet for Choate...

It says to 'fill out the level anticipated' for your language choice, as well as to 'indicate course you anticipate taking. Complete the placement test' for math.

I've finished filling out both the math and language placement tests, math electronically and language yet to mail out, but I don't understand how I could write down what courses I'd be taking for them as I don't know what level the school thinks I would fit in to.

What do I write down?

Not sure about Choate, but at my kids’ school you fill in your best guess and they adjust it based on your placement test results.

Hi! I’m going to Choate as well this coming fall. I would just put down the course level you anticipate taking. So if you want to be in Calculus BC this fall (and feel prepared for) then put that course. For language, if you completed a level 1/2/3 at your school, put the next level.

Hey,

Just put down what YOU want to take. It can always be changed during the first few weeks of school. My recommendation? Put down the honors section of the next math sequence and you can always drop down.

Sometimes, they’ll change your requests for you based on the results of your placement tests too. Plus, if you’re really not happy with your schedule, you can meet with your advisor or dean (or even a department head) and talk about changing levels/sections/etc. Trust me when I say that there’s always a lot of reshuffling to do in the first couple weeks. Choate-specific, think about the following:

You’ll probably end up taking the following classes each trimester:
Math (geometry or alg II is normal, but alg I and trig happen too)
Physics (you have a choice of levels, so choose what appeals to you most)
English (no choice there)
Language (tons here, we offer Spanish, French, Latin (highly recommended!), Arabic (though maybe not for freshman, I don’t know offhand), and Chinese)
Electives!! The fun part of your schedule, you’ll want to fill out the last spot each term with elective options to get credit out of the way. You’ll have to take World Religions, which is the only one with an exam (I wouldn’t take it spring term, because you’ll probably end up with 3-4 exams then). Then, you’ll have an art (most take Visual Studies or Acting 100. Both are fantastic) and a “global science” credit. There, your choices are Contemporary Global Issues (an awesome class!) and Global Scientific Issues (perhaps more science-y, my friends enjoyed it). Fit those in and you’ll be all set for freshman year! Best of luck! Forever True to Gold and Blue!
