Choate on Family Guy

Stewie tries to trade Brian (his dog) for the teddy bear that Brian sold by accident in a yard sale. stewie:"I'll give you my dog for if I lose the ski race". Man:"what can the dog do?"Stewie:"He will lick peanut butter off of you"(more graphic..remember it's Fox).. Man:"Well,I did go to Choate".Is there a Choate story?

uhh very graphic.
are you sure they didn't say something along the lines of "chode" instead of "choate"....

hahaha chode.. but that doesnt make sense in context

check TIVO or dvr.watch it if you are west coast. tell me what you hear.Choate was in context for the preppy looking parent who bought the bear. very funny.

fox 11 or fox family? what time on the east coast?

same fox as Simpsons. I think 9pm eastern

<a href="http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/choad%5B/url%5D">http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/choad</a></p>

I live in Vancouver and I still have an hour until 9 PM. I'll confirm it for everyone.

yeah i saw it that's what he said.

OK,I can confirm that the line about Choate is accurate. The show aired at 9 pm eastern.DVR review shows exact scene time 9:25.12 EST.Watch and laugh.Yes I am bored to tears.Good day.

Yes, indeed, I saw it. But why is licking peanut butter off of people has to do with Choate? Sorry I don't really know much about that school, but I would assume it to be a big party school...No?

..no. i guess there was some sort of tradition or w/e.. maybe choate guys were considered to be lonely or horn-dogs? lol..

OHHHHH I KNOW... it's because Choate girls are rumored to be ugly ("If you can't get a girl, get a Choatie")... so the guys (supposibvely) found alternatives..

ehhh... or...

<a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=choat%5B/url%5D">http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=choat</a></p>

gross. i think that's the reference.

The guy ( who was a stereotypical middle aged prep) said:"Well, I went to Choate".You must just be kidding trying to over analyze this. The creator is an eastern prep named Seth MacFarlane who was born in Litchfield,CT and attended the Kent School. He is using his comedy show to lampoon Choate. It interesting that most of the references on this show are based on real places and current events.

what? nobody is trying to "overanalyze this".. you're so unstable.

I hate wading in and resisted doing so yesterday, but I'll do so before this devolves further. It's a literary device known as "double entendre." Both versions are correct. That's the point. No need for anyone to feel a vested interest in one view or another being right...or dwelling too long on a crude line in a cartoon that 99% of the world (hopefully more) totally missed.

Seth MacFarlane went to Kent. In fact, if my memory serves me, when he first started writing "Family Guy" series he was sued by the former headmaster of Kent whose name is Peter Griffith and whose family bears at least some superficial resemblance to the family on the show (same number of siblings or something like that). Presumably he was unsuccessful, since the show has now been on for a number of years.

As for the crack about Choate, I suspect its just sour grapes, since Choate is obviously a superior school. (I'm admittedly biased because I went there).

About thirty years ago, some whit from a rival school did come up with the following insult: "If you can't get a girl, get a Choatie". It was never clear to me if this was intended to be a crack at our virility, our sexual orientation, or something else. I suppose the stereotype relates to the fact that, because of our arts center we tend to attract more "arty" kids. Of course the whole stereotype is pretty dubious, since arty doesn't necessarily mean effiminate, and even in my day we had kids who played on the hockey or football teams and were also interested in theater or the jazz band.

No, Blair, the "if you can't get a girl, get a Choatie" was made up before the schools merged and meant as an insult that prppd explained - that Choate guys were supposed to be seen as more feminine or something. Nothing to do with the girls.

This episode was on again last night..
