rnarayan… this thread is over 4 years old… what is the purpose of posting a year old article in this?

IDK - the article is only six months old. I found it fascinating and a good read for members wondering about how a certain school responds to a problem like this. Otherwise, how would we know? Might give applicants additional questions to ask about policy when interviewing. I’m betting it raised awareness among schools.

Choate absolutely does not have a “massive bullying problem.” It is one of the kindest and most accepting of all of the big New England boarding schools. The girls who wrote that thread (which they thought was private) were expelled or suspended for the activities they describe in the thread. And yes, it sure did raise awareness among schools. The administration shared with parents very openly about all of the steps that they are taking to reduce bad cyber behavior, and they also shared that they work closely setting policy with the other New England boarding schools such as Taft.

…we don’t have a ‘massive bullying problem’…sorry to burst your bubble for thinking that, but it’s false. The thread was a one time deal and to be honest, I don’t even remember it at all and it was only 7 months ago. Choate has an amazingly open and welcoming student body and the administration has a very strict policy in regards to bullying; therefor there is minimal bullying at Choate.

I know this thread is very old, but I can’t help but wonder where he chose to go. I’d pick Choate lol, I like bigger campuses and quite frankly find it weird that classrooms and dorms are in the same building, but that’s just me it’s kinda like hogwarts, haha

I’d choose Choate in a heartbeat. It may not be an easy decision to some but to me it’s a ‘no-brainer’. Choate is a great school and is getting better each year.

I’d choose Taft in less than a heartbeat. It may not be an easy decision to some but to me it’s a ‘no-brainer’. Taft is already a great school and it doesn’t need to get better each year.

Invent… you’re annoying.

Hmm… That’s another reason I would go to Taft. Choaties get annoyed for no reason. :D

@Invent, I would have had no problem if you were stating your opinion about Taft and how it’s better. People have their reasons and perspectives. I used to not think very highly of Choate myself before attending. But you’re just mocking what DAndrew said, and that’s not warranted. For example, if you mentioned that you like the way all the classrooms are in the same building at Taft, I would have agreed with you. It seems convenient.

To be fair, I didn’t provide much “reasoning” either in my earlier post, but there’s a point I was trying to make. School choice is a highly individualized decision. To me, these two schools are quite different and therefore it’s a “no-brainer”. I’d have a harder time deciding on Choate or Lawrenceville, or even Choate or Andover. That’s just me.

@Invent: I sense you are angry. My advice: let go of the perceived bad experience with some schools and move on. The kind of publicity you are trying to make about these schools won’t have any major impact, coming from a failed applicant particularly. It only draws some sympathy from others, but do you really need or want that? Where are you heading to this fall?

IDK. I thought @Invent showed a great sense of humor.

It’s gotten so “personal” on these boards a little levity seemed warranted and I thought it was a nice touch when taken in the proper context.

For the record, no school is perfect for everyone. Love the school that loves you is my opinion.

I sense Invent is “angry” not just from this one post but several of his recent posts. As for this one, yes, I agree it shows a sense of humor too.
