Choate!

Who's applying?

I am, and I'm really excited! It seems like a great school. :) What do you guys like about it?

Everything:)

Helen, what do you think of the overall campus, guys dorms, FOOD :), classes, people, and the town of Wallingford? What do you do on the weekends?

Choate's campus is pretty
The worst part about the campus in my opinion is that the science building, brownell, and the athletics center are kind of far away (about a 5-10 minute walk) from most of the other buildings. The science center is amazing though...

I don't know much about the guys dorms since we didnt get co-ed this term yet, but I think every dorm is different and as a new sophomore you probably
won't get much of a choice.

Ahh, food... Choate's food is REALLY good compared to most of the other schools, awesome dining hall as well. You can check the menu on the Choate website to get an idea of what they usually serve.

The people at Choate are amazing. First couple of days you mingle around and try to make friends..but I think by the end of the first few months you'll have the group that you usually hang out with.

The town of Wallingford...
Well most of the townies hate us...but nevertheless Wallingford is a decent town. When applying last year I especially liked Choate because it wasn't in the middle of nowhere like some of the other schools. It's really convenient to walk to Walmart, RiteAid, and the local restaurants. Usually I go to Walmart on the shuttle every Sunday because im really lazy. The Walmart shuttle also goes to the movie theater and the coldstones area.

Last term (fall term) I had a game every saturday so basically I would wake up, go to town with some friends and get breakfast (because the dining hall only has early breakfast on saturdays) and then go play volleyball... but this term Im playing thirds squash so we don't really have that many games. I guess I just hang around campus with friends and stuff. On sundays usually I go to brunch then shuttle to town and then hang out again or try to start homework.
Then again I know people who go to the library a lot and just study. People who play instruments usually go to the pmac and practice too...you can really just do whatever you want.

Thanks. :)

Do you know if it is possible to take two foreign languages?

Well I know of people who have freshman year but decided to take only one sophomore year...its harder to take two languages because of the other requirements.

jonathan, u retaking 9th?

Helen, do you know if it is possible to take two languages at Choate without sacrificing other classes?

Soccerstar, probably not.

So far I have found out that you can take two foreign languages at Deerfield, Andover, and Middlesex.

Well you can take it...but ..its not recommended.

Jonathan-- you can take 2 language courses at Exeter, too, as long as you can fulfill your other graduation requirements

Is it possible to take two foreign languages but still get three years each of math, history, english, and science?

Nope, not for credit; you can only have 5 and 2/3 credits per term (unless you're new Prep/Lower and taking Health, then it's 6).

If you audit one of the language courses (not for credit), then yes

but the workload is pretty tough, esp if you're placed in hard courses and you plan on being active in extracurriculars. I'm guessing the workload would be around the same at Andover, though. Are you definitely set on taking 6 courses per term? you might want to ask people at andover/deerfield/middlesex about the workload. I know that for me, I have trouble getting enough sleep and I just take the reg 5 academic courses. sleep is important...

good luck with everything :)

Yeah, I wouldn't mind auditing one of the courses. Is this is the same at most top schools? Do you know the importance of the SSAT at Exeter?

I have no idea

i do

its really imporatnt to them becuase its an equalizer
when i went for a meeting with them last year
they said that they have kids with low grades but huge scores and it shows that they can handle the courseload

Thanks.

Did you hear what other schools think about the SSAT?

I REALLY NEED TO GET A GOOD SCORE WHEN I RETAKE IT!! ahhh. I hope for at least a 60, and even that would be a 17 point jump!

they all have the same perspective
its the same with college as well
or..
say you got perfect in one area and you struggled in other areasss

like that happend with me on the psat
i got perfecton the math portion but i love math
i struggle with english but i stated that in my applicaiton essay
so they see im not naive

APPLY TO MIDDLESEX
my friend went there he said its awesome but, you have to surround urself with good ppl

ohhhhh also talk about the two languagesssssssss

but your only problem is that you can't make ap level for both unless u go to andoverbecause there you go to ap in your fourth year

like im doing ap japanese next year so ya but if i go to andover i wanna do russian and japanese/chinese

I'm probably applying to MX.
I could also get to AP level for both if I go to SPS.

Hopefully I will do better next time!!!

i hated the ssat i did terrible so ya dont feel bad
i went to a pretty intense school in japan and i got 61%

i wanted schools taht were so hard to get into in the UK like westminster
i didnt bother to apply
but, my grades werent that great

this kid i kknew at andover, he was korean
he spoke like no english at all he was in my dorm
i was like howd u do the interview
i would use like non difficult vocab and he'd b like uhh

uHHH makes me so mad if i don get in lol
