I was offered TTP and also got accepted to another 4 year private university with partial Scholaship. Can’t seem to decide to attend CC or 4 year school before transferring . Would love to hear pros and cons.
What’s your budget? Transfer students don’t generally get a lot of aid, so if your family can afford the 4 year school with the scholarship it might be better to start there.
If you were offered TTP you should probably contact the admissions office and ask to speak to an admissions counselor and possibly someone in whatever department(s) you applied to. Lots to unpack there.
@hopefulforever If the 4 year college is one you don’t mind staying at for all 4 years, strongly consider attending the 4 year college and do the TTP there. A lot of things can happen in a year. You might like the 4 year college so much that you might not want to transfer or you might not get in as a TTP. S had the TTP and chose to attend a UC to do the TTP. He made a lot of good friends at the UC and though he was a little sad leaving, he still left the UC for USC’s TTP when he was accepted after a year. At USC, he still maintains his friendship and gets together with the UC friends when he is home. If you don’t think the 4 year college is a place you would stay at regardless, chose the CC route.
Fine print. Read it carefully. More and more private universities require that you pay back grants (including scholarships) if you leave before finishing your degree. They do this to discourage exactly what UCBUSCalum describes. They would probably lose a court challenge trying to force you to comply, but they CAN withhold transcript services.
Transfer students receive need-based aid on the same terms as incoming freshmen. Scholarships, however, are harder to get as a transfer since most recipients are identified as freshmen. So, maybe, attend a SoCal CC, get some GEs and foreign language out of the way, and save money to finish up at USC.
