My son's first choice of schools is NYU, but he is considering others because of the cost.
Here are the basics:
We live in NJ.
He is not sure what he wants to study but is leaning towards eventually working in the field of forensic psychology.
Accepted to:
NYU- LSP---his first choice---no news on any financial aid yet, but not too hopeful
Fordham--- decent merit money
Univ. of Delaware---VERY nice merit scholarship
The College of NJ (not really known outside of NJ, but is known as being quite selective)--no word on merit money yet

I know that Fordham has a strong doctoral level Clinical Psychology program and there is a forensic track. I have worked with colleagues from Fordham (both well trained) and the externships/ internships should be very good for NYC. Here is information from the Fordham U website:

I know of no one who has attended the College of NJ, but I have heard it is a very good college. They have a Masters program in Criminal Justice. I have no idea of its reputation.

Does your son want to go straight into forensics (College of NJ may be better in this regard) or go for his doctorate in psychology first (Fordham may be better for this)? The reason I put out info on the graduate programs is that they may have a filtering down effect. That is, strong graduate programs may allow undergraduates to have experience with some of the same faculty and research/ clinical experiences obtained by the university as a whole.

I know nothing of University of Delaware. NYC should have many programs and training for your son to access because of the available internships and nearby presence of the other programs, such as the John Jay College of Criminal Justice (for conferences, additional course work in the field, if he desires).

However, I think it is what he has in mind and how much difference each college means for you financially. They seem to be solid undergraduate choices. It would not hurt him to attend the college with most merit aid and lowest cost, do really well and go on to graduate studies (say in NYC later if he wants).

Sorry, please delete the link above for the College of NJ. It is the wrong one. Apparently, the TCNJ has a broad-based undergraduate program in psychology, but I see no one with expertise specifically in forensic psychology. They may provide opportunities in forensic science more than forensic psychology. This has to be researched a little more, but I believe your son may have more opportunities as an undergrad in Forensic Psy at Fordham, of the 2 colleges I am comparing.

Fordham U’s Undergraduate Psychology Dept. has a forensic psychologist, a Dr. Keith Cruise, which is definitely a good sign that the dept. has training in this area.
