choir or differential equations or econ?

Hi, I'm a junior in high school and I'm interested in applying to ivy league schools. By the end of next year I will have taken 11 ap level courses...however, I'm having a schedule conflict between differential equations and concert choir. Now I've taken choir for 2 years and it will be my third year next year, and I have made all states and region choir and such....which course should I keep? Which course increases my chances? If I drop either choir or DE, I can take AP econ. Should I consider dropping either of those classes, because if I want to take both, I could potentially take an independent study in differential equations.

Any advice would be appreciated!

you should do choir because it's good to show commitment to an ec... just make sure you have 4 years of math. other than that, just do what you'd most enjoy... you've obviously challenged yourself, do what you enjoy.

thank you....i have four years of math overall, but i've pretty much exhausted all my choices except for differential equations, so if i didn't take that next year i wouldn't have a math. still a good idea>?

Everyone can sing. If you're not GOOD, and you don't have solo potential (and all-states doesn't quite cut it), it doesn't really matter to colleges. Take differential equations--very few people are actually good enough at math to pursue it to the end. Emphasize, instead, some EC that really makes YOU stand out.

agree with Darcy, if your goal is Ivy league or the equivalent. DE will set you apart from most other students.

so should I consider getting rid of choir altogether and taking AP econ?

Follow your interests. Don't just live your life to please an admissions office. Be your authentic self. This will come across in your applications. Your academics with 11 APs are already strong enough. You know, many colleges are now limiting the number of AP courses you can get creidt for.

take the class you would enjoy the most

I do enjoy choir, but my ultimate goal is to go to a good school...perhaps taking AP Econ would boost my chances. I would love to take choir, but writing about music must be such a common thing for college essays...what would improve my chances?

And I am also worried that avoiding taking an AP class like Econ would make my schedule seem less rigorous.

what is your current planned senior schedule?

AP Biology-(2 blocks)
AP English Literature
AP Spanish
Differential Equations and Complex Analysis
Global Studies honors required
concert choir honors
PEER Leadership (instead of gym)

I have five blocks of AP classes, and technically 11 AP classes by next year. However if I take Econ next year that will be six years of AP classes. I am just afraid of seeming fickle to colleges for dropping choir.

Your schedule looks great- keep the choir and enjoy your Senior year. Remember, it takes a lot if time to actually do the college applications- it can almost be like having a part time job on top of your classes. I'd advise you to decide now on who you will ask for your letters of recommendations, if you haven't already done so, and submit the requests to those teachers early in the school year, along with a resume- to remind them of your acccomplishments. interests, etc. so they can write strong letteres for you.
