Choose Soley on Surroundings

If you could choose a college based soley on its surrounding and or beauty of the area what college would you choose?

That depends entirely on what you want in surroundings-- e.g. urban, rural, warm weather, 4 seasons. And how do you weigh on-campus vs off-campus surroundings.
One touted for beautiful location is Pepperdine, but apparently there is much for college students in Malibu (other than the beach). At the other extreme weatherwise could be Bowdoin. For exciting urban-- Columbia, NYU. For fun or relaxed urban-- UT or Lewis and Clark or Reed. For college town-- Harvard? and a some of LACs in the NE.

It depends on your priorities. Some campuses are so dominated by the sorroundings (NYU) it really gets in the way of the college experience. Others have lots of on-campus activity to compensate for the lack of an urban location. Also, "middle of nowhere" is SO different. A cornfield is horrible, but a northeastern LAC surrounded by rivers, a nice college town, and beautiful woods and starry nights is great (for me).

If I had to rank my favorite locations it would look like this
1) College town schools: UNC Chapel Hill
2) NE Beautiful rural schools with strong campus social scene: Dartmouth
3) Urban College town schools (City but still strong college scene): Brown

I have no love for urban schools (social life is way too weak)

Soley for location? /Definitely/ UCLA.

City/Urban: Columbia
NE Beautiful schools with strong campus social scene and equally strong social scene off campus that caters to college students surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers and gorges with 4 seasons: Cornell
Urban College town schools (City but still strong college scene): Brown
"middle of nowhere" towns: Colagte or Hamilton
Close-to-city-but-not-quite-in: i like SUNY Buffalo actually. I'm not a huge fan of the campus, but I like the city alot.
Southwest, surrounded by mountains and a desert, but still in an urban envioronment: University of Arizona

Stanford/UVA by FAR

Stanford, Colgate university, U of chicago, UCLA,University of british columbia...

Univesity of Colorado - Boulder. The Rocky Mountains rise up out of the plains, about 1/2 mile west of campus.

Pateta, great call on UBC. I was there last month. Vancouver is GORGEOUS.

NYU. New York is the best location.
