So, who can give us the scoop on the "personalities" and perceptions of each dorm? Do incoming freshman get to list a choice? How likely are you to get your first choice? How does the housekeeping thing work?(can't IMAGINE they'll actually pick up after my S!) Thanks in advance for your input!

Housing forms are made available in mid May. Students have the chance to name their top three building preferences. Those who complete the forms first have the best shot to get their first choice as it’s first come, first serve. As for the personality of the different buildings, I’ll leave that to one of our current students to answer.

I lived in BSB my freshman year…so, naturally, I think it is the best :-). BSB and Deming are the closest dorms to the academic buildings, and all of the rooms in BSB have AC (I don’t remember specifics about all the others, but I know Speed Hall doesn’t have AC in any rooms).

Although really, it doesn’t matter too much where you live - you’re going to have fun in any residence hall your freshman year. It’s a blast.

Housekeeping is very nice. They vacuum, make your bed, etc. If you’ve got things strewn about they won’t pick up after you…although that’s probably less about them not being nice (because they are really nice), but more about students not wanting their carefully organized messes disturbed.

Having someone vacuum, tidy up, and fix up my bed every week was a nice luxury that I didn’t appreciate until I went without it after freshman year.

And, as I mentioned before, the housekeeping staff are very nice. They work with you to find out when cleaning fits your schedule, and they always have a good relationship with the students.

My Freshmen Year I lived in Mees. First Off, if you ask any upperclassmen what is the best freshmen dorm they will tell you the one they lived in is the best so if you dont get your first choice dont be alarmed. As far as atmosphere they are mostly based off of who is there. Mees and BSB are usually coed and all freshmen so they would be most similar to a normal college experience. Speed is all freshmen guys and very large and if you go there through out the school year it has a very similar feeling to a fraternity house. As for Deming and Sharpenburg I am not too sure.

The housekeeping will make your bed, vacuum the floor and clean the bathroom usually while you are in class every week. The only real exception to this is if you build a loft they will not make the beds on the loft. They often will talk to students as you are going to class.
