Choosing a Major

I'm filling out the UC application and am curious about choosing a major...I want to apply to the School of Engineering, but am not sure which specific field I want to get into. I know that changing majors from school to school (say, engineering to business) is just a roll of the dice once you get in, but how hard is it to change majors with in a department (say, Mechanical Engineering to Chemical Engineering?)

Thanks.

actually its not a roll of the dice. as long as you have good grades and good reason you should be fine for the transfer between schools. don't take my word on this but changing majors within a school shouldn't be difficult. i believe as long as you do it early and have fulfilled certain core classes its doable.

The only major that allows you to transfer into any major within Engineering that you wish to is Engineering - Undeclared (You need a 2.0 GPA if you're Engineering-Undeclared in order to transfer, in addition to completing course requirements).
Transferring from any other major has different procedures and requirements (I think it's a 3.0 GPA with course requirements). The Engineering Announcement http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/current_students/announce/eng-announce-07-08.pdf has full details as does the College of Engineering Advising Office.
