Choosing between the middleish-tier UCs

if you like arden fair mall, check out galleria in roseville. it is farther but less crowds and better stores imo.

UCSD and it's not even close. You sound like you don't have much of a social problem. But if you're really into going out and the party atmosphere, then go to UCSB. I personally believe you'll be okay socially at any school.

Have you even been to UCSD? I know that having a good social life is extremely important factor for me.

Personally, I would immediately rule out UCSD, despite being the best of the 4 academically.

Pick the school that you think you would feel the most comfortable at. For me that would be UCSB. Some are put off by the party atmosphere in Isle Vista (but you do not have to live there) and parties are easily avoidable. UCI and UCD are similar academically. UCD is more of a college town (like Chico in terms of size, but not nearly as vibrant) while UCI is located in the suburbs.

I'll take you up on that offer; would you say that Davis has a lot to do on the weekends (shopping ... and probably more shopping xP ... but other stuff as well) Is the transportation good? buses vs. bikes? Also, one last one (sorry) is it convenient to go to Sacramento w/out a car?

Public transportation isn’t very good in Davis, but there are bike paths everywhere. I believe that Davis is the number 1 biking town in the U.S. It seems like almost every student at UCD has a bike. If you do end up bringing a bike, buy a cheap one. Bike theft is pretty common on campus.

There are chain stores in Davis, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding things you need. If I remember correctly, there are usually outdoor markets that are open on the weekends. If you want to go to Sacramento, you’ll probably need a friend to drive you there, as it’s about 15-20 minutes by car.

Davis has a shuttle that goes to UC Berkeley a few times a week.

CaliGuy07 is right technically freshman are not supposed to have cars, but many do. You have to park on the street which is not all that hard. Another piece of advice, if you decide to live in davis go with the suites. (Cuarto)

Wow... lots of misconceptions about UCSD's social life.

If you can't find a party here, you're either lazy or dumb.

I would still choose UCSD. I live really close to the campus, and a lot of my friends went there, so I have a pretty fair assessment of the school. It's pretty socially dead, but what most people do is go to the beach anyways (the guys at least). Nerds tend to have fun there too, since SSB parties are pretty common. Just because the school is socially dead, however, doesn't mean that the students don't have fun. The social scene in San Diego is downtown and, more importantly, SDSU. If you want a party, you go there, and yeah they know how to party. UCSD doesn't even have that big of a Greek thing either, but you're in college to get a good education, THEN to have fun. Also, do consider that the biggest thing about San Diego is the beach, so socially dead=surfing en lieu of partying. Downtown has some nice attractions, like Balboa Park and the Gaslamp Quarter, so you won't exactly be deprived >_>;;

UCSD ALL THE WAY! no competition.

although ucsd is known as being socially dead, i think there is so much to do there (i have visited quite a number of times)! it all depends on if you arent too lazy to go and explore for yourself. and i dont think that there is a frat block or anything, but frat/sorority parties are pretty accessible, especially if your roommate or friend can hook you up with all the parties.

SD has the best location. Right next to the beach, which means tons of businesses! there is the UTC which is an outdoor mall. it is literally like 5-7 minutes away (car- but im sure there are buses) and there are tons of activities provided by the colleges!

UCSD isnt dead UNLESS YOU ARE DEAD :)

Yeah, UTC is a fun place to go. There's also Fashion Valley down South, and North County Mall up North. The school might not be that socially active, but, for Pete's sake, it's San Diego ;)

UCSB might have a party scene, but the city itself is pretty far from any other attraction other than the beach. Same would apply to UCD (ergo, true college town minus the beach). Irvine's in a nice place to explore South LA, but you can't really compare Irvine academics with SD academics, regardless of what ranking system you want to apply to the argument.

Thanks for the input, but lol, I suck at swimming, so I wouldn't even try surfing. Beaches aren't that much of a plus for me, I've lived in KS pretty much all my life, so it's not like I'm going to have to get used to not being by the ocean (but beaches are quite nice for the eye candy ;) ... not apparently not at UCSD ... no offense meant btw)

But I do have a few questions
1. Exactly how far away is La Jolla from SD ... like not the outskirts, but places where I'd actually want to go.
2. How is the public transportation in UCSD?
3. What exactly is in La Jolla? >.> like how big? major sights?
4. *** is a SSB party? ... apparently I'm not nerdy enough ;-;

okay SD is in la jolla (correct me if im wrong)

but even if you dont want to swim or anything, living by a beach is a major plus because of all the things that are there! generally beaches attract all sorts of businesses because everyone wants to be there.

and i believe that sd has shuttles? and a great bus system. (well, at least they should because of all the students there)

but anyhow la jolla is like the bombdizzle :) its such a great location because of all the stuff to do! i swear you wont get bored!! major shopping centers and trendy restaurants literally surround UCSD.

Err, I meant San Diego the city.

oh hahah sorry! well i think that SD is about 15 mins away from like downtown san diego not sure though. but im pretty sure that it isnt any further? at the most 20 mins

lol, thanks

La Jolla is around 20mins away from the Gaslamp Quarter, Fashion Valley, Qualcomm stadium, etc. SDSU actually has a better location in terms of attractions, but nowhere near the academics. Study hard at UCSD, and on the weekends party harder at SDSU ;)
