Choosing between UCLA and UW?

Did anyone else have their child get admitted into both UCLA and UW and if so, which way are you leaning and why?

Please share what state you are from (ie. cost of attendance) and major.

My student got into both UW and UCLA. Will most likely attend UCLA. We live in CA so cost of UCLA more attractive than UW.

Hi, beyond the costs aspect, how did you evaluate the two schools against each other?

What major(s) is the student interested in?

For each school:

  • Did the student get direct admission to the major?
  • If not, is there a high college GPA requirement or competitive admission to declare the major later?

For example, neither would be a good choice if the student wants to study computer science but is not directly admitted to the computer science major, because the likelihood of being able to get into the computer science major after enrolling is very small.
