Choosing Classes..

Sorry if this topic has been overdone but I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to sign-up for classes. It seems that the limit for a freshman is 15 units, which is roughly 3 classes. However, what combination of the 3 classes should I take?
Should all of them be related to my major? What about the GE's?

I'm pre biz-econ btw and I was thinking of Math 31B, Econ2 and a GE... Is that a feasible/reasonable schedule?

The unit limit is 19. After that you have to petition either Murphy or Campbell Hall (depending on whether or not you're AAP) for more units.

For fall quarter, your orientation counselors will strongly suggest that you take roughly 13-15 units. They're going to advise you to take take two of your major requirements and a GE usually.

Your schedule is feasible and normal for pre biz econ.

Thanks and what are some recommended GE's for freshman?

GE clusters would be a nice choice for freshmen, but only if you like one of the cluster topics being offered. If none of them appeal to you, then any lower division GE would suffice (check "The Easy GE thread" on this forum for some easy GE classes).

With regards your schedule, I was pre-biz econ too and I advise against taking more than 1 pre-major class (if any) during your first quarter in college.

But if you've taken (and done well in) AP Calc BC and AP Macroeconomics, then your schedule is fine.

Advice for Econ 2: Jack Hou is a horrible teacher, so study your Econ book really well, buy the lecture notes and take them to class, and do several (at least 2-3) practice exams before the midterms and final (especially the problem solving sections). You will learn nothing from Professor Hou, so be prepared to teach yourself the material.

J Hou is the only Econ 2 prof? I read on Bruinwalk that he talks about his wife alot lol

So if I just take one pre-major course such as Math 31B, does that mean I should take 2 GE's then?

yeah 2 GEs, or 1 GE and EngComp3 (if you need it), or a GE and a Writing II, or a GE and a language

yes unfortunately Jack Hou is the only professor who teaches Econ 2 in the fall, winter, and spring

I passed my AWPE so should I enroll in Writing II?

Passing the AWPE means you need to enroll in Writing I (English Comp 3).

yahoo:

You will need to take Writing I before Writing II. Some Writing II are only offered once a year, so you probably won't take it first year.

Most people take it second year at earliest.

can u go to murphy hall during the summer to petition for 19 units?
and how do you do it? do you need the prof's permission or something?
