Sorry if this topic has been overdone but I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to sign-up for classes. It seems that the limit for a freshman is 15 units, which is roughly 3 classes. However, what combination of the 3 classes should I take?
Should all of them be related to my major? What about the GE's?

I'm pre biz-econ btw and I was thinking of Math 31B, Econ2 and a GE... Is that a feasible/reasonable schedule?

The unit limit is 19. After that you have to petition either Murphy or Campbell Hall (depending on whether or not you're AAP) for more units.

For fall quarter, your orientation counselors will strongly suggest that you take roughly 13-15 units. They're going to advise you to take take two of your major requirements and a GE usually.

Your schedule is feasible and normal for pre biz econ.

GE clusters would be a nice choice for freshmen, but only if you like one of the cluster topics being offered. If none of them appeal to you, then any lower division GE would suffice (check "The Easy GE thread" on this forum for some easy GE classes).

With regards your schedule, I was pre-biz econ too and I advise against taking more than 1 pre-major class (if any) during your first quarter in college.

But if you've taken (and done well in) AP Calc BC and AP Macroeconomics, then your schedule is fine.

Advice for Econ 2: Jack Hou is a horrible teacher, so study your Econ book really well, buy the lecture notes and take them to class, and do several (at least 2-3) practice exams before the midterms and final (especially the problem solving sections). You will learn nothing from Professor Hou, so be prepared to teach yourself the material.
