BIZ-ECON freshman year schedule!

To all incoming/past biz-econ freshmen.

What classes do you recommend and what GE's are easy that you would recommend as well?

I would like to try and take classes that will actually be fun and somewhat easy to take so I don't burden myself my first quarter.

Please help! I don't know where to begin!

Thanks

i would recommend

fall:

 • econ 1 or 2
 • ge (or math 31b if you need it)
 • ge

winter:

 • econ 1 or 2
 • mgmt 1a (if you have junior standing)
 • ge

spring:

 • econ 11
 • econ 41
 • ge

i recommend taking mgmt 1a freshman year to see if accounting is for you, because accounting classes count for the other half of the biz econ major. also, getting rid of your prereqs (econ 1, 2, 11, 41) your first year is a nice way of getting ahead in the major IF you are serious about committing to biz econ.

from experience, three classes per quarter for the econ major is not bad at all, especially for prereqs.

(as for easy ge’s, search for them on the forum)

I am a freshman prebizecon too. how would this schedule be? I plan to double major in applied math. I will have finished mgmt 1a, econ 1&2 as well as most of my GEs before fall quarter. But I think taking classes with upper classmen may be a disadvantage for me. =[

Fall:
Econ 41
Math 31B
LS w/ lab GE

Winter:
Econ 11
Math 32a
PIC 10a

Spring:
Econ 101
Econ 103
Math 32b
Math 33a

Summer: both at CC because MGMT 1B is supposedly really hard at UCLA?
MGMT 1B
Math 33B

math 32b is not easy, econ 101 is not easy, econ 103 is like a harder version of econ 41, and math 33a is linear algebra aka proofs and stuff. my friends who usually are really good at math are worrying about failing the class.

so i would say revise ur spring schedule, all the rest look doable.

and i believe they require you to take management 1a and 1b here, not sure tho.

Thanks for the suggestion.

What would you recommend for my GE classses?

i checked with ucla, they do accept mgmt 1a/1b from cc

dang ok, I guess I will get rid of econ 103 for spring and take 3 classes.

If you’re planning on tacking on the accounting minor, I might advise taking MGMT 1B here at UCLA.
I found that the things I learned in that class quite helpful for upper divs.

I wouldn’t write anything in stone. Schedule conflicts are a big possibility.

Yeah of course, its a tentative schedule. I do have a lot of units though, so I don’t think I will run into too much problems.

Yeah I am going for the accounting minor. I heard 1b is brutal to your gpa though? Is it very hard?

1B isn’t too terrible. Tests are hard, but Ravetch is a great professor though.

If anything, it’s good preparation for your upper divs. If you can’t handle 1b, how are you suppose to handle all the other classes?

Do you need a strong foundation in 1a to do well in 1b?

I am thinking of taking 1b in the fall (if counselors let me)

I would take both 1a and 1b at ucla… I took 1a at a cc and then went to Ravetch for 1b. Definitely a decision I would not make again. You should also see if taking classes at a cc holds less weight when calculating the primary score needed for the biz-econ major.

why is the biz-econ the most popular subject in ucla, while i was been told that it’s one of the “most selective” ones?

because everyone wants to do business, and this is the closest thing UCLA has to a business major. Its not like USC where they have an entire school dedicated to business and there are so many fields within the umbrella term

Whats the difference between Econ 1/2 and Econ 11/41?

I’m so confused with all these numbers. Is there a website with a chart or list sort of thing that could set me straight?

I’m thinking of taking for my fall quarter:
Econ 1/11 (After I find out what Econ 1 is and Econ 11)
Math 31B
GE (An easy GE)

How does that look for my fall quarter?

Also, whats the easiest/most helpful Professor for Math 31B?

Sorry for all the questions, thank you!

pretty sure you have to take Econ 1 before 11

Update!

I’m thinking of:

-Econ 1 or Econ 2
-Math 31B
-Stats 10

Any opinions on this schedule? It seems so math related, I also want to take some fun and interesting GE’s that would be easy though.

I’d say do

Stats 13
Math 31B
Econ 1/2

According to bruinwalk, Schonmann would be best for 31b this fall. The professor teaching stats 13 has very good ratings!

Thanks for your opinion!

What’s the big difference between Stats 10 and Stats 13 though?

Stats 13 is 1 unit more and has a lab component (which is a good thing). And supposedly easier than Stats 10.
