Course Possibilities

I'm interested in possibly majoring in Biz Econ, Econ/Int'l Area Studies, or Math/Econ. Is this a reasonable first quarter schedule for an incoming freshman:

Math 31A
Econ.1/2/11 (depending on AP scores)
Management 1A
Writing 2 Requirement - Eng. Comp 5W?

...if no, what should I drop, change, add, etc.?

wut? you even didn't take Math 31A? I think you are freshman, right?
oh, sorry, didn't read carefully.
my only suggestion is that you will have to take many GE in the first two years, don't cram all major classes so fast, or will will be bored with bunch of GE classes in the second year. you should have 1 GE in each quarter. that's my exp

So I should drop probably Management and add another GE? Any other suggestions?

Reasonable schedule. Just to let you know, 5W is a lot of reading, just like like any WII.

Just to let you know, Management 1A is not available to freshmen.

I don't know how you studied in your highschool. But generally, in college, especial UCs, students study very different compared to highschool. You may not want to push yourself too hard right in the first quarter (and get bad grade). 4 classes would be enough. Don't try more than that number

^really, where did you find that info...it says on econ.ucla.edu that it required for pre-Biz Econ. majors as prep for the real major

What WII would you recommend for someone who is okay with writing a lot, but not necessarily an avid reader (by any stretch of the imagination)?

So it looks like:

Math 31A
Econ. 1, 2, or 11
(Random GE)
Writing II Requirement

BoelterHall was right, it's not opened to freshman, you can take it when you are sophomore

won't all the WII classes be filled anyway...

take 3 classes in the first course, enjoy your college life a little before going into the 4 classes mode, it is so hard to find much free time with four classes

I'd just take Math 31A/Econ/GE

Check out the individual course description in the catalog.

For Biz-econ, you can afford to take a lot of 3 course quarters and still get out in 4, so if you want, you can start out with 3 courses Fall Quarter. Depends when you want to take it easy.

Most WII will be filled by the time you enroll, and definitely not the popular "easy" ones. I don't know any writing course that doesn't require a reasonable amount of reading, especially for WII. For a regular GE, there are a bunch where you don't have to do both. From my experience, there's only been the other way around: not much writing, lots of readings.

GE to take Music 15 or Art and Arch 10.

Music 15 is considerably easier than Art and Arch 10, as for AA10, there are 5 1 page papers and shows to go watch

Music 15, my friend who knows absolutely nothing about music(and still doesn't know anything about music) got an A+. The class is based purely on attendance, which is a really high portion of your grade and in class quizzes that are impossible to fail.

hard to get those GEs isn't it? i thought a lot of athletes and people with earlier enrollment times would take those spots

I don't think so, they're pretty huge classes 300-ish

Also, it's through orientation. We had no trouble getting into those classes.

Don't take four classes first quarter. You want time to chill out and meet people that quarter and what not.

Music 15: The quizzes aren't in-class, they're online. Take them over and over again until you get 100%, then report them.

The final was a joke. I'm srsly.

2 classes + 1 GE seems ideal for the first quarter

oh yeah, if Music 15 is not the easiest class on campus, I'd be pretty shocked.

^how many units is that class, tho?

That would be approximately 14-15 depending on the 2 classes taken.

dontcha, music 15 is 5 units
