Ranking UCSD colleges

Hello all,

I decided to start my UC app early to save some stress for later. But Im a little confused about the ranking for the colleges at UCSD Ive looked at past discussions on here about the GE requirements, but I was wondering as a community college student who has finished IGETC does the GE requirements even matter? And isnt housing for transfer students at the village? (if applicable)

And looking at the past discussions Ive heard Muir as a favored college. (mostly for easy GE’s lol) But as I read the descriptions of each college Im intersted in Revelle (despite it being one of the older colleges) .Also ERC since its close by the social science building where Im sure (if accepted) I’ll be taking most my upper division classes as a psych major. (and also because of the beautiful views :O)

Thought I could hear some feedback and clarification. Any UCSD transfers Help Me please hehe

Thanks!

My understanding is that the colleges can sometimes have GE requirements that are not covered by IGETC. However, I’m not a SD student, so I’m not 100%…

So I’m not exactly a UCSD transfer but I think I can help here. Regardless of your major, according to the UCSD website, all transfer applicants must have completed at least 60 units, and the 7-course pattern (2 English courses, 1 math course, and 4 courses from arts/humanities/social science). Since you’ve completed IGETC, I’m guessing you’re good for this.

Since the GE requirements for any college in UCSD are so specific to that college, I’m guessing you have to take them at UCSD. Just as long as you’ve taken the required courses for your major and IGETC, I think you’re good (but please verify this with someone else, I’m not totally sure :-SS) So short answer, I don’t think the GE requirements matter. I think that’s for completion once you get to UCSD.

I took a tour of the campus and the tour guide informed me that transfers stay at the village, which has a really nice restaurant and really pretty views. Good luck with your application and hope this helped slightly lol

I heard muir has less GEs that you have to take. I think we ranked them like this:

  1. Warren, 2. Muir, 3. Sixth, …, 5. Roosevelt, 6. Revelle

Sorry I can’t remember number 4. Husband’s an engineering major and also heard that Warren’s the college of choice for that, with revelle as the one for med-students although I heard their hard.

Thank you all! I’ll take that all into consideration. Yeah Ive heard Revelle has alot of unnecessary GE’s, but overall I’ll consider Muir and ERC and most likely sixth as well.

Good luck applying guys!

@sugarbabies3 I believe the fourth college on the list is Thurgood Marshall, if I’m not mistaken. I have a friend there who’s an engineering major and the GE’s aren’t too demanding compared to say, Revelle.
Good luck to everyone applying!

If you are a transfer student, it really doesn’t matter. Muir has more GEs for transfer students compared to most other colleges. I have a friend who is in Revelle and he didn’t have to do any GEs. Most colleges requires you to take about 3 upper-division GE(areas not in your major) classes. Like for an example, Warren transfers have to take 3 upper div GEs. Best thing is just go to each college website and check the transfer GE requirements to graduate. Make sure you complete IGETC or at least partial IGETC otherwise you’ll be like a freshman when you transfer. Just a personal opinion, chose Warren and Revelle as your first two choices and leave ERC(mostly women) and sixth as your least favorable Good Luck!
