Choosing from a long list of colleges, all advice is appreciated

So I applied as a pre-med with a major in Biochemistry. I live in Pennsylvania. Which colleges have the strongest pre-med programs, and have a good enough reputation to go along with it?

Temple University: accepted with $10,000/year scholarship
University of Pittsburgh: accepted with $2,000/year scholarship
Duquesne University: accepted with $26,000/year scholarship, also admitted to honors college
The Ohio State University: accepted
West Virginia University: accepted with $11,000/year scholarship
Drexel University: accepted with $20,400/year scholarship(5.5k subsidized loan aswell)
Penn State: accepted
Villanova University: accepted

Congratulations on so many acceptances especially so early in the process. Where these all early action?

What can you afford? What is the net price of each after scholarships? What is your situation regarding paying for med. school if you end up there? What will your actual major be? Premed is not a major, and you want a backup plan is med school doesn’t happen.

He/she said Biochemistry is the major.

The amount of the scholarship doesn’t matter. What you need to pay after that scholarship, and the specific requirements to retain the scholarship do matter.

Here’s a handy calculator from FinAid.org to help you crunch the numbers. http://www.finaid.org/calculators/awardletteradvanced.phtml

When do you hear whether you got into Honors at Temple?

What’s the net cost for each?
To calculate net cost, do this:
(tuition+ room/board + fees) - (scholarships, state grants, other financial aid) =
DO NOT deduct work study or loans of any kind.

Can you list net cost for each university?

Good choices. As mentioned, run the NPC.

In general, my advice would be to go to least costly university where you will be able to get your highest GPA. You will need a good GPA and $ for med school.

It would also help to be in a RI research university where you’d have access to research and/or internships.
