Choosing high school courses to get into top colleges

I'll be a freshman in high school next year. There is no grade weighing at the school for honors classes. Is it better to get straight A's in regular classes or the occasional B in honors courses? Do colleges really look at the courses you took, or is your GPA more important? I want to get off to the right start so I have as many options as possible when I start applying to schools. Any advice would be appreciated!

Courses you took+high grades. Try to take the honors/AP classes without getting too much Bs

Balance, my friend. Balance is the key.

Take some AP classes, but make sure you don’t overload yourself. You really should figure out what your breaking point is, an avoid it at all costs. You want as many A’s as you can get for college, but colleges will notice if you don’t take AP/IB classes when your school offers them. Ec’s are important too. If you work 20-30 hours a week you can get off the hook because colleges understand that you don’t have time for EC’s, but if you do nothing outside of schoolwork, your application will suffer. Remember, it’s quality, not quantity. If you are in 1 or 2 EC’s but spend a lot of time in them then you will be fine.
