D has been accepted to UCF for Fall 2015 as a freshman, and we see that it is recommended that she sign up for housing ASAP to have a better chance at getting the housing she’d like. She’d really like to have her own room …needs her quiet, down time, and a kitchen is high on the wish list.
We think she will be in honors, so that LLC is a possibility, but she isn’t sure she wants to be in towers-too close to the stadium (not a football fan- or a fan of the crowds that a football game draws)??
The Lake Claire section looks interesting to her, but she wonders if it is too close to the Greek area…too close to the parties??
The Global LLC interests her, but it’s in Hercules Apts, which says it isn’t available for freshmen…so we are a little confused by that.
We’d love to have input from those in the know about dorm choices!
Definitely sign up and pay your deposit quickly for a better chance to get your first choice… plus you can change your choices up until the end without losing your place in order. My son was able to get a single room in Apollo and it really worked out well. It would be nice if it had a sink like the double rooms, but other than that, it’s been great.
He tried for Lake Claire but that did not pan out and now is glad he didn’t as most of his friends are in Apollo/Libra/Nike. Apollo/Libra are older but very convenient.
I don’t have any info on any LLC or anything like that - sorry. An interesting place to look around for comments/information is http://www.reddit.com/r/ucf
Hope this helps.
Thank you Suemom2. i did go ahead and pay the deposit so her name is on the list. I did a little digging since you said you can change your choices…that really wasn’t clear from the website…until you get pretty far along in the sign up process! You are right. She can change it up until June!
We put in the request for Towers III for now, thinking that she’d choose the honors LLC if she gets into honors, and that’s where that is located.
She still likes the looks of Lake Claire but it seems far from any of the food service locations.
It turns out the Global LLC is for upperclassmen, so that’s out for freshman year.
D is a non-partier, much prefers small groups to large crowds (a little worried UCF will be just one big crowd), heard from her firedn that the dorms at another college have very thin walls…leading to TMH about the roommates activities…something she’d like to avoid. She wants access to a kitchen, and prefers to have her own room.
Any more UCF dorm advice from anyone?
If she wants her own room and a kitchen, then she should choose Lake Claire. I’m not sure about the Towers so I cannot comment on them.
My daughter started Summer B in Nike share a room with a roommate. In Fall, she dormed in Lake Claire. She had her own room along with 3 other girls who also had their own bedroom, who shared 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. They are older dorms, but my DD wanted her own room and access to a kitchen, so it was a cheaper alternative to the Towers.
It is a little farther to the food service locations, but that’s because they are closer to the dorms that don’t have access to a kitchen. I never felt that UCF was a very very LARGE campus so walking from Lake Claire to the Student Center isn’t THAT far.
I hope that all of the folks who are considering options for student housing will do some research on the increase of violent crimes in the UCF area apartment complexes that cater to students. Local media has run stories on this problem, and a local private security company has a blog that has covered this also. see:

It looks like there is an ongoing trend of these crimes at and near the UCF community and at some off campus student housing apartments. Please do some research before you sign a lease.
did she get into her first choice housing? I applied for it back in December, but I just want to make sure I did it early enough.
