I got accepted to fordham university for fall 2014 . What major is the best: finance or marketing ?
Also, is it advisable to take say a major in marketing and a minor in finance with a primary concentration in marketing and secondary concentration in international business ? What major has the max no of opportunities ?

You don’t need to declare a major until end of sophomore year. You have lots of time to take some introductory classes and see what you like, talk to professors, go to career placement to talk about job opportunities in different areas etc. before deciding.

And I hope you enjoy Fordham!

I have got 42 credits transferred so I was told I need to do my core courses but decide a major since my schedule is going to be ready so I need to tell them what majors minors and concentrations I would want to take.

42 credits? Sounds like you are transferring in as a sophomore. So, yes, you would need to decide a major soon. Go to DegreeWorks to see how those credits count and to try out the major/minor options and what classes are involved. Make a decision based on what kind of a job you want, not what offers “the best opportunities” as Fordham offers internships in everything. Good luck.

How does ellucian degree works work ? Also, I was more interested in marketing but have always heard that marketing nowadays has very less jobs as compared to say finance. That increases my confusion !!

Is business administration with a concentration in finance a good course to pursue . Does it have good placement opportunities in general since I am planning to do this with a minor in marketing as I m not totally sure of what I would want as my career.

You can double major and/or double minor at Fordham. (No triples, they say)
Which college are you transferring into? (Gabelli, Rose Hill, Lincoln Center??)

You might want to look into International Political Economy (IPE) as a possible major. It is quite possible to get a double minor at Gabelli and Rose Hill/LC). IPE requires a minimum 3.0 GPA, and is RH major.

These are the Gabelli School of Business majors:
Rose Hill:
Accounting Information Systems
Applied Accounting and Finance
Business Administration (paired with a primary concentration)
Finance
Information Systems
Marketing
Public Accountancy
Public Accounting

Lincoln Center:
Global Business (paired with a primary concentration)

from the Gabelli page of the website:
“MAJORS -Students choose a major in their junior year. These represent your main academic focus and require approximately 15 courses.”
RH and LC majors are declared by February of sophomore year, generally.

As for which will lead to the better career - it’s a gamble. Most recent articles tend toward Finance or BA.

Good luck with your decision - and welcome to Fordham!
