Choosing my essay topic.

Hello guys. I am a sophomore and i live in Athens Greece. I am thinking of applying for some US Universities but i cant decide my essay topic. I was thinking of describing my whole admission experience in my essay. The struggles i faced and what i learnt from these experience. You know, we, the greeks are really family oriented so despite the fact that my parents are young and typically modern, they would hesitate about letting me study in the US. I would overhear my dad saying that he would get depressed ( that was too much tho) if i left home too early. As you see, my admission process was not like the one of a typical US student. What do you thin?

Are you a high school or college sophomore? International admissions to US universities are fiercely competitive (but if you can pay the full price there are more options).

Regarding an essay topic, I’d think about whether it is something unique about you. I’m guessing it isn’t too different than what many international students go through to apply.

Writing about your experience with the admissions process has been overdone. Pick something else. You seem to have a close family. Use the essay to tell admissions something about you they can’t otherwise know from your activities and grades. Sometimes, just painting a picture of one thing that happened with your family can say a lot. Good Luck! Think about what you want to communicate about how you will contribute to your new college community.

I am a high school sophomore! Thank you for your tips!

Please don’t even think about your admissions essay as a sophomore. Hopefully you will grow as a person, learn a great deal, and have many new experiences between now and when you actually write the essay.
