Choosing my IB subjects is nerve-wracking... help me out?

So right now, this is what I'm thinking.

Eng A1 HL
Chinese B HL
Econ HL
History or Geography HL?!
Math SL
Physics SL

So firstly, I'm feeling very very conflicted about whether to take History or Geography. I'm good at both. I've taken both in MYP. I enjoy them both. History is a little bit more difficult but I think it's more recognized?

However, what I'm thinking is.. isn't Geography all about the future? It deals with all the crap we have to face in the future, and there are so many jobs related to it. Our school's curriculum also touches on stuff like geo politics, etc. and we learn about stuff that would be helpful to say, urban planning or dealing with climate change.

I don't know.. I feel like Geo would be more helpful in terms of my future, while history would look more impressive in terms of college admissions. And please, no lectures about how I shouldn't be doing things based on how they 'look', because I am genuinely equally interested in both subjects.

Oh, and on the other hand. I'm slightly nervous about physics. I am seriously challenged when it comes to sciences. Apparently physics standard in my school is a joke, so hopefully that means I can scrape a 6. My other option is Bio... which looks worse (as in less interesting) and is easier but takes time and effort in memorizing pointless stupid BS.

Anyway... thanks to anyone who bothered to read through this and doesn't plan to comment with an ever so helpful "tl;dr". Got any advice on Histo vs Geo or Physics vs Bio?

You might regret Chinese HL, but that’s cuz it’s rly rly hard lol. If you like it, though, go for it. I would take history HL because it is more recognized, but I really hate the class. The IA for the class isn’t unbearable, but obnoxious. I would take Bio over Physics because, based on your HL and SL courses, you like humanities more. Physics is very math-y, while bio is all memorization.

Chinese B HL would not be challenging for me since I’ve been taking it as a first language since junior high.

As for physics and bio, I’m actually pretty decent at Math, I just don’t like it. And what I’m also worried about is that I don’t think I have what it takes to sit down and cram little facts into my head for hours if it comes to that in Bio. I swear I’ll spaz out every 10 minutes or so and eventually go insane.

And thanks for your input, on both threads. (:

Eng A1 HL - Standard. Everyone usually takes HL (usually mandatory). You’ll be fine. It’s almost the same as SL cept one less paper and a bit easier marking.
Chinese B HL - Apparently people say it was difficult as hell. Shouldn’t the curve be hard too because of all the chinese people who’ll take it?
Econ HL - no clue. Our school does not offer.
History or Geography HL?! - I am currently getting owned by History. In gr 11, I thought I was doing well, getting 6s and 7s on my essays. Then in gr 12, I dropped to a 5 and even got one 4 on my essay. Definitely my hardest course right now. Apparently Geography is a bit easier although they’re harder on the curve.
Math SL - Easy. Depends on your teacher though. My teacher treats SL kids as HL kids and the tests reflect it. The May exam is cake walk however, if you’re good at math.
Physics SL - My physics teacher apparently told me last year’s physics SL test had some harder questions than the Physics HL test. However, less things to learn, and the SL options are HL core so definitely a bit easier.

haha np. I love IB lmao. Hmmm. If you’re good at math, take physics. Just expect to hate it lol. I, personally (though I’m sure you don’t agree based on the previous thread), would recommend chem (omg!) SL. It’s really a fun and rewarding class. Physics and Chem are very comparable classes. Figure out which one is harder/has a better passing rate on the IB exam.

Thanks for the input, Raddd. I’ll be okay in Chinese. I’m one of those people who will ruin the curve for the rest of you. ;)

Swim2, chem is absolutely not an option for me. It’s like a foreign freaking language. I would actually fail it. Fail as in… a 3 or 4. :P

I’ll probably go for Geo and Physics.

Bump. Any other thoughts? :p

Depends on your learning style. GEO and BIO are memorization. HISTORY and PHYSICS are application.

I, personally, learned the hard way that I am a memorization chick. However, IB History is very interesting. Too bad its hard as balls especially with a reading disability.

Also, why are you doing 4 HL? College credit?

Geography and Biology are very similar in terms of how you learn. They both require a lot of memorising terms and ideas. On the other hand history and physics makes you think and apply the various things you learn.

This website explains with a lot of detail on how you might choose subjects: [Choosing your IB subjects I Life as an IB student](http://blog.ibcram.com/2011/04/11/choosing-your-ib-subjects-i/)

You’re a little late.

I mean, really, why do people feel the need to bump these old threads?

Lol I wonder how their IB Career ended up.

**** they’re a junior too.
