Choosing my major

First of all, sorry if this is a bit of a tired topic, I don't really expect you to know the answer to my problem, I was mostly just hoping for advice from someone who might have been in the same situation.

Anyways, the area I want to work in is business, preferably something in marketing, and ideally I would like to work internationally. The degree I had decided on was a BA in Economics, I thought this one suited me because I think Economics is an interesting topic and the BA has the least math in it (I'm not very mathematically inclined) Also, you may ask, why not just do a degree in marketing? Well, I can't get into the business school at my school of choice (University of Minnesota), I can do a marketing degree at a different school but I love the U of M and would like to graduate there. I also really like the foreign language aspect of the BA and am planning on becoming proficient in that language.

The problem I'm having though is, even if I try for marketing internships, will I be screwed with a BA in econ because I didn't take enough math nor am I good enough in math to hold an actual economics job (finance, banking) Or is it true what some people say that ultimately it doesn't always matter what degree you get with the exception of more specific degrees (Engineering, Nursing, etc)

Anyways, sorry if this is confusing, I'm not the greatest at writing out my thoughts, if you have any suggestions based on previous experiences though, it would be great, thanks.

You’re just a bit confusing in what you’re asking…

Anyway, have you checked out the Applied Economics major in the Ag College at Minnesota. It would give you lots of options for marketing courses and it doesn’t require any more math than the BA in Economics in the College of Liberal Arts. You should be able to accommodate your international interests, including a foreign language, too, through your electives.
