Choosing the 4 colleges to send scores to?

So when I signed up for the ACT there was an option about sending the scores to 4 colleges. But this is the first time I'm taking the act and I'm only going to have about a month to study (i have been studying for the sat for a few months now so i don't know if that will help at all, i know they're different).

I just decided not to send the scores right away to the colleges. First off, I'm not really sure where I want to go and I'm afraid that I might do really bad and I don't want colleges getting those bad scores. Am I at a disadvantage by doing this? I was told that it as good to send them because it shows interest in a college, but if I do really bad...

What do you think? Do you think I should just take practice tests and see where I stand? Then if I think I can do pretty decent then should I choose schools to send my scores to?

Thanks for the help :)

Yea… Take a practoce test ans see how you score… If you are just planing to attend a state school, you should go ahead and send your scores. Unless it is a top school you can pick which ACT score(s) to send.

I would never send my scores automatically to colleges. That extra cost of $14 is worth it in the long run.

It depends what schools you’re aiming for, if you know you’ll do decently and you’re applying to lower tier state schools, its a good idea. You save money and they’re aware of your presence and will start sending you stuff in the mail about them, etc.

Some colleges don’t require that you have test scores sent to them if the scores are listed on your high school’s official transcript. It is a way to save some money.
