Choosing universities, Help me to choose from these 19 )) thank you in advance

Hello, I am a international undergrad from Republic of Georgia. For my financial reasons I decided to round up these universities/colleges. Please help me decide: Their rank, location etc. thank you in advance.
Biggest factor for me is which of these, are at least worth considering. Please Give me top 5 out of them.

1) Georgia Gwinnett College (GA)
2) Northeastern State University (OK)
3) Southwestern Oklahoma State University (OK)
4) Harris-Stowe State University (MO)
5) Blue mountain College (MS)
6) Wayne State College (NE)
7) Northern State University (SD)
8) Mayville State University (MN)
9) Minot State University (ND)
10) Delta State University (MS)
11) South Dakota State University (SD)
12) Bemidji State University (MN)
13) Southwest Minnesota State University
14) Great Basin College
15) Jones College
16) Beulah Heights University
17) Caribbean University
18) Chadron State College
19) Dickinson State University

Note: My SAT's are CR: 510 WR: 500 MATH: 510 / Toefl: 103

Have you checked the SAT score ranges for these schools? Colleges generally use only the combined CR + M scores, so make sure whatever schools you put on your list accept a CR + M of 1020.

Another way to reduce a list is to check cost of attendance. Can you afford the schools on this list? Do they give financial aid to internationals? What can your family afford to pay every year? If you don’t know, you should find out.

You should also compare the programs at the schools. Having a solid program in the major you want is more important than artificial rankings.

Good luck.

I can afford it fully, because they are not that pricey. And yes, my SAT’s are what they demand.
I just want to know which of these are good and which are not even forth considering.

I think it is unlikely that anyone here could really help rank these schools, as many of them attract mostly in-state students and the students choosing these schools often aren’t comparing them with other regional schools in other states. US News and World Reports produces a list of best regional schools – maybe you could learn more about a few of your choices here: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/regional-universities

What is your likely major?

Thank you for the link, I will look into it.
Economics.

Any preferences? Do you prefer a warmer or colder climate? Want to be close to an international airport? Prefer less commuter students? Right now we don’t have any particularly effective way to narrow your list.

I don’t care for any physical comfort issues. I already searched for crime rates in those areas etc.
My only question is towards the schools, which of them are academically better.
I know the list is not that great, but I can’t afford anything else so…

Sorry these colleges are mostly out of the radar from CCer’s.
You picked all local state schools, are you sure if you checked the out of state COA? As OOS cost will be higher than in state.

Wayne State is pretty good and reasonably well known, you should keep that one on your list.

Well, most of these aren’t “good” schools. They’re mostly directional universities where average students with average scores go. If your SAT score is representative of your school results, then they’d be right “on level” for you.

What can you afford?
Is there a chance you could retake the SAT in December and apply to Berea (which would be cheaper than any of these, and better?)
South Dakota State and Bemidji are probably the best of the bunch - and if you don’t mind the cold, then check out UWisconsin Superior, which generally gives scholarships even for modest stats and offers a similar or better education. Have you checked out the other MN State schools, the other UWisconsin Branch schools? Have you looked int the thread about the “Cheap COA” on the financial aid forum?

I can afford no more then 14K per year (purely on Tuition and dorm)
I am going to retake the SAT’s, my guess is I will better my score 50 points in each section, but still that is not enough I presume so…
I will check them out, thank you.

You need to look for the Cost of Attendance for International Students at each website. That is the amount of money you will need to be able to show that you have in order to get a student visa. I don’t know if any of the places on your list would be in your budget.

Thank you. I will look into it.

South Dakota State University Is the cheapest
