Choosing your major on UC app questions

Hey folks,

I was wondering what are or are there rules to which major you indicate that you want to enter into on the UC application? I figure there's at least something to do with going into an easier one and then immediately switching to the one you want after transfer. I think I remember reading something that you can't switch after transferring or something. Nonetheless it seems like a jerk move to me, lol.

Anyway, I have a similar quandary for you all. What are the official rules with double majoring? In the UC app it tells you to just pick one with the other as your second choice and to tell them later on. But do you have to and should you? Going from a CCC to a UC you're set at 70 units with some exceptions, but UCSD for example has it to where you have to complete 90-135 units to declare a double major. So you'd have to wait at least a quarter to even start, right? So unless some UCs let you start both upon entry would it better to put both and aim your app at just one to better your chances of getting in?

Thanks.

1 - you can apply to any major you want. You’ll want to ensure you have the prereqs completed, and where possible, check the average transfer gpa for majors to see if you are competitive.

2 - if UCSD is saying you need 90-135 units to declare a double major, those 90-135 are quarter units which is equivalent to 60-90 semester units.

3 - in some majors in some schools you may be able to switch to a different major, but there are no guarantees. Planning on switching majors once you transfer really isn’t a plan.

Indeed, and to add some school specifically state you can’t switch majors after you transfer.
