Dear CC community,… Yesterday I finally decided that I will go to Fordham, but. I’m having a second thought today, I’m very confused, desperate and crying (though I’ve never been a weakling). Not only it’s that everyone seems to be surprised I chose Fordham over BU (considering I receive no aid from both), but it’s also…Am I doing the right thing turning down BU with its international recognition and a more diverse student body (which is extremely important since I am a liberal agnostic/atheist international from Kazakhstan) and choosing Fordham mainly because of its location in NYC? It is so egoistical of me to choose a university just because I feel better there. My parents will be paying a huge amount of money they’ve been saving for years… I want them to be able to brag to others about their daughter’s university, but in Kazakhstan no one knows Fordham, while BU is more or less internationally prestigeous. Please help. damn… :’<

If you feel that Fordham is the better fit for you and it’s where u feel
Most comfortable, I think you’ve made ur decision wisely while it’s true BU is very international, u HVE to consider where YOU will be the happiest for the next 4 years! Don’t worry about other people just focus on what will make u happy. Fordham is a great school and honestly take a deep breath and relax and be proud of ur decision (:

thank you! but I still think that it’s very egoistical and even immature to choose a university only because I like it; this isn’t how things work in this world…:’< I have to consider prestige if I want a good job in my homecountry. In addition, what if I choose Fordham and I will not fit there?. I’m a little introvertish, it takes a while for me to make friends, moreover, I am an international from not China or Korea or Canada but from Kazakhstan… Oh my gods…(

I don’t know about your home country but in the US BU and Fordham are equally prestigious: both excellent schools but neither one approaches the elite category.

In my country, BU has some prestige, while literally no one knows what Fordham is. Damn, if only Fordham had a bigger name recognition…

BU is thought of very highly all over the world atleast in India where I come from and no one even knows of Fordham. I was in a similar position but I didnt even consider Fordham for this sole reason moreover you should consider other factors such as the Boston advantage and networking opportunities in Boston against the corporate climate of NYC. In the end its your choice and college is a very personal choice and I know of people who chose BU over NYU, USC and UCLA not to mention other international universities. You should seriously give it a thought and please don’t get upset you have got two really good choices… Congrats!
Hope this helps!

Here’s my advice: From experience I know that a good education at a good university is not enough to guarantee a job. You’ll need to consider an internship and what kind of career field you’re interested in. Business-wise, NYC is superior, but if you’re looking to be, for example, a doctor, BU might be the better choice. Either way, you’ll find tons of internship opportunities in Fordham because it’s a big city and has less competition from other universities surrounding it (remember that Boston has Harvard, MIT, BC, and many more). As long as you get actual field experience while you’re in school, you should be fine landing a job. Therefore, in my opinion, you made a good choice (even if you want to go into medical).

besides, fordham’s name is growing each year. they are getting more and more recognition
