<p>Hi guys, so I've been in a bit of a panic the past few weeks, well because I believe I chose the wrong college and I know it's too late now.
Last year, I visited UT Austin, and I had a meeting in the natural sciences department to speak to some woman about the retail merchandising major. This woman obviously had no idea what she was talking about because first of all, she was expecting a Biology major and all her information on my major was terrible. She made the major sound horrible basically because she was going off on what she thought. I came back thinking "wow, that school was amazing, too bad about my major though" and I didn't even apply there. Whether this was the fault of the woman informing me, myself for not researching it more, or the set up of this entire visit i don't know. Since there were so many other colleges I was looking at I didn't think anything of it and thought of it as good because it helped limit my options.
Choosing TCU was sort of a last minute thing, I applied to over 10 colleges and this was later than all of them, I would have never expected choosing it because I had honestly always hated it all my life but that's another story, the fashion merchandising program sounded fine and all other academics sounded very good so I chose that. Now with every new thing I learn about UT (I won't get into all of it) I'm really wishing that I would have chosen it. Because if I would do it all over again there's no doubt in my mind I would have chosen it while I had always had small doubts about TCU.
So what I'm asking is..what are my options? The funny thing is I had always been majorly against transferring because I had always wanted to choose the perfect college and be able to go to all the events and stuff from freshman to the end. Also I've planned on doing sorority and stuff so if that changed anything..I just wouldn't want to be late on that.
So since unfortunately I probably don't have the option of starting Fall 2013..should I wait it out for a semester at TCU with my fashion merchandising major then try to transfer? And maybe see if it gets better. Or should I go to UTSA for a bit or should I not go to college at all then apply? I'm jealous of my twin sister because she gets to start at UT Austin in the Fall, I guess she has it more together than me.</p>
<p>Is it too late to pick up the phone, call UTA and ask about admissions for the summer, fall or spring? Why don’t you start with that?</p>
<p>If you can’t get in until the spring, then decide whether it is worth it to you to take the fall off entirely, or if you want to start out somewhere else first.</p>
<p>But I do have to ask, why on earth did you speak with someone in Natural Sciences if your intended major is Merchandising? That makes no sense at all!</p>
<p>Apparently retail merchandising at UT is within that department. Because of that, she didn’t know what she was talking about and made it sound bad. She made it sound as if it was stupid to choose it and that it was more science…which it’s not. The impression I get from researching more and things like this: [From</a> Ranch to Runway | The Alcalde](<a href=“http://alcalde.texasexes.org/2012/01/from-ranch-to-runway/]From”>From Ranch to Runway | The Alcalde) is definitely not what I got from her.</p>
<p>Call UTA, you never know. But I wouldn’t count on them having space before Spring.
It seems you didn’t plan very well and made last-minute, impulse decisions.
Right now, I wouldn’t advise taking a semester off unles you have a specific plan in place; you should attend TCU, you may like it and you’ll learn the basics for your major. In the meanwhile, ask for a second visit at UT, specifying in advance that you hope to transfer and major in Retail Merchandising. Ask to sit on a class, to meet current freshmen or current majors.

Make sure to ask what exact classes you’d need to take 1st semester at TCU in order to transfer them to UT - in all likelihood, a freshman seminar or English Composition, some math, a foreign language, and two others that are more professionally-focused. I’d advise French for foreign language depending on the branch you’re interested in. UT will only recognize specific classes so you must know what classes exactly (“English” is not enough, you must know its exact number).
Why would you attend UT-SA? Do you like it better than TCU? Overall it’s a less good school but other factors could play into this: is it because UTSA is public whereas TCU is a Christian school, so you’d rather have more diversity?
Finally, there’s no garantee you’d have been admitted to UT, and still no garantee you will, so try to enjoy TCU.</p>
