Chosing between Intro to Calc II (Math 32) and Labratory Calc II (Math 32L)

Hey so I am trying to figure out which course would be better for me to take next year. I already tested out of Math 31 so can take one of these courses, but I want some input from anyone who has taken either of these courses. Are the Labs an added burden and make the course significantly harder? Are they more proofs then anything? Do the labs help or hurt your grade? Did you find it rewarding? Do you recommend with or without labs? THANKS!!!

you might want to check your requirements, especially if you are doing engineering as the “choice” might not actually be much of a choice for some people.

Unfortunately I’m not in engineering so I do have the choice. I’m in Trinity and planning to double in Math and Econ. I talked to the school and they said its my preference so I’m really unsure of what to do.

are you sure you’re allowed to take 32L? i tried and my AP calc credit only qualifies you for 32. if you’re allowed to take 32L, definitely take it. it helps your GPA 'cause math 32 is one of the most failed classes at duke, and the lab helps you stay afloat rofl

Yea I just got an email from the professor I asked and he said I can only take 42L, not 32L. Now I’m even more undecided because 42L is harder then 32 (obviously). Any more advice eatsalot?

You have to enroll in the Lab section of Math 31 and 32. You can’t take Math 32 without being enrolled in Math 32L.

Nope, Duke 500. They are two separate courses. One is Introductory Calc II (Math 32) and the other is Laboratory Calc II (Math 32L). Obviously with 32L you have to enroll in the lab along with the lecture, but I think the OP is clear on that already.

I think you’re correct about 31L though, as it is only offered as 31L and not simply as 31.

general advice is to never give up math credit for duke 'cause math is just … brutal, simply put.

i think i am going to go with math 32 though, instead of 42l. my situation is a little different 'cause i’m also taking orgo so i’d rather not kill myself. but i derno it’s up to you. :/

is anyone else worried about the time in between classes? how the heck are we supposed to know if we can make in time to different buildings? i’ve been on campus once!

try not to sign up for classes that have 20 minute breaks in between if the locations are on different campuses.
