What's the difference? Does having the lab section boost your grade or something? I honestly don't comprehend having a "lab" in Calculus.

A lab is a series of exercises, often done in a group. They're a good time to get questions answered by an undergraduate TA (usually understand where you're coming form better). They tend to boost grades, but since Math is curved in the end that's not a big deal unless you think you're much better at homework than everybody else is.

The big thing is that it helps reinforce techniques and such. It's a nice way to make sure you're learning the material.

Thanks for the info!

I dunno ... I thought the "lab" was a big waste of time
although I heard 32 (NOT 32L) was a harder class
If you have AP credit and have actually learned calc in HS I would take 103 (multivariable) right away

I suppose I should mention that I have a semi-conflict of interest. I was a TA for the lab component of 32L during the spring of 2005.

Maybe I'll go 41 then?

Nice question albedo22. I am a pre-med and only want to do the bare minimum of required math. I will get a 4 or 5 on my BC Exam. I really do not want to take 103 lol. I have heard horror stories. Is Math 41 a good option?

I guess if you wanted to do the bare minimum, just start over with Math 31L/32L. That would probably be the easiest.

I only took AB Calc in HS in senior year and am pretty sure that I scored a 5 so I can get credit for Math 31. Does it really matter whether I take Math 32 or 32L with a FOCUS cluster first semester?

I think both 32 and 32L gives you 1 credit each, so the difference doesn't really matter from the transcript perspective.

Thank you. I was confused because in my HS a class with a lab counts as 2 credits.
