Are there some strong Christian support groups on the campus? If anyone has firsthand experience, please PM me.

Also, is there a good music scene, both classical and jazz (and maybe folk/indie rock)?

Thank-you.

Hey sbjdorlo,

I have been involved in several Christian groups this year and there is a very tight-knit community here at WashU. The organizations I have had experience with are ACTS (Association of Christian Truth Seekers) and Overflow (WashU’s campus crusade for christ ministry). ACTS was basically a friday night off campus deal with about 30 people. There would be a home-cooked meal, some worship, a short bible study, and prayer.

Overflow is a bit different in that there were small-group and large-group meetings every week. I’ve been involved in one of Overflow’s small group meetings this year and it has been a great experience to take some time out of studying to discuss theology/the bible with a few other people. The large group meetings are also great as there is usually a time for worship and then a speaker gives a short talk. From my experience, the speakers have been great (local pastors, professors, etc.)

As far as music goes, there are many classical and jazz groups on campus. It really depends what you are looking for. I am in an a cappella group that specializes in classical, folk, and jazz and we have two full concerts every year. There is a jazz band on campus, a pops orchestra that is really chill, choirs, 13 a cappella groups, as well as many local bands that are made up of students.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Feel free to PM.

This is great to hear. I will definitely PM you. I know there are different feels for Christian groups. We visited Princeton and happen to be there when the Princeton Evangelical Fellowship met. It was really neat to be there as a parent and know that there was a doctrinally sound great Christian support group on campus.

As a parent, knowing that my Christian son can get plugged in somewhere before he arrives on campus (via email, phone, networking, whatever) is really important because I am sure the intense workload of college can easily sidetrack students from the Christian support and accountability.

Thanks again.

Musicalscientist,

Can you PM me? My son may visit WUSTL this summer or early fall and would love to meet other Christians and/or musicians. Thanks.
