Christians...yeah, I'm talking to you!

yeah I wanted to attend the most socially conscious, etihics-on-your-sleeve, politically aware college i could deal with ....... we dress really bad and like to have a lot of fun but when the rubber meets the road....its serious spiritual politics..i think (serious moment here) when we all quickly stereotype colleges we miss some of the fine points..some colleges (as percieved by some kids) as as druggy hippy schools have a core of very committed religous / spiritual/ social justice oriented students. .....we just don't clean up too good.....

Catholic. Wut of it?

..liberation theology rocks.....

I am a Christian...I was wondering does anyone else on this site go to a Christian(protestant) highschool?

No, WAAAAAY to expensive for my parents :o

Its amazing how all the monothesistic religions have so much in common!

My school is the best school in the area and it's Christian, so my parents see it as an investment.

My parents would be eating peas everyday if they did that! Woe is me. Not really haha :D

I went to a Catholic school. Then I got out.

I'm Catholic. I'm glad to see this thread is not restricted to a certain Christian sect.

Sorry if I am misinformed on the issue of 'Christians', but do you define a Christian as someone who attends church and does all the other affairs associated with being 'religious', or merely as a person who is a Christian in faith?

I'm not a Christian, but I do respect religion. However, I am firmly against the teaching of Intelligent Design in any enviroment but an exclusively theological institution. I don't think we need to be taught pseudoscience. I guess I'm a bit of an agnostic.

My TOK class actually did a unit on pseudoscience; it was pretty cool. I did my project on "pyramid power." We had to discuss the differences between science and pseudoscience, drawbacks of each, etc.

OMG, not another atheist patrol! just j/k..

I will agree with alien_workshop that it is amazing how the monotheistic religions have so much in common.

Come to think of it, all religions have a lot of the important stuff in common.

Eh, I kind of think once you leave the monotheistic realm the similarities became less similar and less frequent.

Especially in the "prophets" and teachings of moral values.

i am!! :D

there're only like 3 monotheistic religions and they all came from the same place, so it's not surprising they're so similar. it IS surprising there's been so much antagonism throughout history though; crusades, pogroms, jihads, etc.

Yeah, that is true. I believe the main reason for such animosity isnt because of religion. Its because people dont know much about other people's religion. For instance, many illiterate Muslims belive Christians are disloyal and "evil" people, which is not the case. On the other hand, Christians dont understand what a "jihad" really is. Jihad is really an intrinsic fight for Islam (rarely a war) againsts deeds considered immoral in accordance to the Quran. So basically, there various misconceptions between the monotheistic religions which causes all the animosity. Cultural values also plays a role in my opinion.

Not only that, but there are misunderstandings within religions that lead to violence as well. Look at medieval Catholics vs Protestants in Europe, or the Sunnis vs Shiites in Iraq...
